9/11: The Circus Continues

The 9/11 Commission, which has lately become the (Grand)Standing Committe on National Scolding and Punditry, interrogated former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani from a site less than two miles from Ground Zero. This hearing provided yet another opportunity for a handful of victim family members to act irrationally in order to get their faces on the evening news:

Outraged relatives of World Trade Center victims heckled former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani on Wednesday as their hopes that he would be grilled by the Sept. 11 commission faded in the face of gentle questioning and effusive praise from panel members.

"My son was murdered because of your incompetence!" shouted Sally Regenhard, whose firefighter son died in the trade center. Seated three rows behind Giuliani, she jabbed her finger at the former mayor and waved a sign that read "Fiction" as he gave the city's emergency response a glowing review.

Regenhard may want to review the events of 9/11 more closely. Although she may not know it, Giuliani didn't pilot either of the two planes into the World Trade Center towers, nor did he conspire with Osama bin Laden to "murder" anyone. I put this on the same level as Michael Berg, whose son was butchered by the same organization that killed Regenhard's son, who now says that Bush and Cheney murdered Nick Berg -- video evidence to the contrary.

Since when did we let the terrorists off the hook for these killings?

As I posted yesterday, I understand that these people will never recover from the devastation of losing a family member. But the reality of life is that we all lose family members, some way too early, and some at the hands of other people. Why does their grief allow them to act out and make outlandish claims, especially with Regenhard and her clique of idiots, who's almost three years past the murder of her son by Islamofascists. How long do they get to disrupt government proceedings with their rude and partisan sniping, even if the proceedings they interrupt are next to worthless? Because in my mind, their family members died in an attack on America, and that makes this entire issue a lot bigger than Regenhard. I resent her arrogating unto herself the role of judge, and I especially resent the deference shown to her and her little team of agitators by the 9/11 Commission and the media.

So let's get this straight, once and for all. Islamofascist terrorists murdered 3,000 Americans in an ongoing escalation of the war they declared on our country. Bill Clinton, George Bush, Rudy Giuliani, Madeline Albright, William Cohen, George Tenet, Condi Rice, and other Americans didn't plan the attack, didn't carry it out, and I'll bet my last dollar that in their hearts, every single one of them would have given their life to prevent it. Mistakes were made, both before and during the attack, as Giuliani said, but that's what they were -- mistakes.

Giuliani and his emergency response teams risked their lives to save as many people as possible; some gave their lives in that effort, like Regenhard's son. It's a shame that his mother spends her time using his heroism in an effort to score partisan cheap shots off of the flawed but ultimately heroic people who helped save New York from allowing the terrorists a much larger victory than they achieved. It's too bad that John Lehman uses his position on the commission to sneer at and belittle the men who put their lives on the line for decades to protect New Yorkers and who also lost good friends and co-workers on 9/11. It's a national embarrassment that a panel which should be working on improving our systems in order to prevent another 9/11 has instead turned itself into a Volksgericht with each member taking turns playing Roland Freisler, berating witnesses and making clear that any admission of error will be trumpeted on every talk show onto whose stage they can elbow their way.

In fact, it's a travesty, a circus, and it distracts us from winning the war that the Islamofascists continue to wage against us. Disband it now, and send the parasites riding on its back along with it.
