Who Asked You?

Senator Joe Biden really knows how to wear out a welcome, according to Reliable Source, the quasi-gossip column for politics edited by Richard Leiber in the Washington Post. Leiber notes the following report from the upcoming issue of Rolling Stone:

Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.) might not be invited back to the Oval Office anytime soon to do his Donald Trump imitation. In May he dispensed blunt advice to President Bush on whom he would fire. As Biden recounts in the new Rolling Stone:

"I turned to Vice President Cheney, who was there, and I said, 'Mr. Vice President, I wouldn't keep you if it weren't constitutionally required.' I turned back to the president and said, 'Mr. President, Dick Cheney and Don Rumsfeld are bright guys, really patriotic, but they've been dead wrong on every major piece of advice they've given you. That's why I'd get rid of them, Mr. President . . .' They said nothing. Just sat like big old bullfrogs on a log and looked at me."

Their silence probably resulted from shock at the rude nature of Biden's uninvited advice. Either that, or they were trying to remember when Neil Kinnock said those words before. The funniest part of the story is that Biden tells it himself, trying to make himself look good to Rolling Stone, when all it demonstrates is the arrogance and hostility that the opposition has shown towards the Republicans, and not just recently, either.

If George Bush needed advice -- even from a Democratic leader -- would he select Joe Biden as his sounding board, or perhaps someone who hasn't spent the last three years cheering on his party to new heights of obstructionism? (via Wonkette)
