Palestinians Prove ICJ Irrelevant

Just two days after the International Court of Justice ruled that Israel had to tear down its wall between Israel and the Palestinians, a terrorist group with ties to the Palestinian Authority has bombed downtown Tel Aviv, proving the ICJ irrelevant at best, and dangerous:

Palestinian militants detonated a bomb near a Tel Aviv bus stop early Sunday, killing a woman and wounding more than 20 other people, police and Israeli media said. The explosion shattered a period of relative quiet inside Israel and came two days after the U.N. world court ruled that Israel's West Bank separation barrier is illegal. Israel says the barrier is meant to block Palestinian attackers.

The Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, a Palestinian militant group loosely linked to Yasser Arafat's Fatah faction, claimed responsibility, saying the attack was in revenge for Israeli army operations in the West Bank city of Nablus. Israel recently killed the group's top commander in the city.

Note the AP weasel phrase "loosely linked"; in truth, the AAMB has long been linked to the highest levels of Fatah leadership, and that connection has never been a secret. Fatah organized the terrorist group in fear that other militant groups like Hamas and Islamic Jihad had demonstrated too much popularity through indiscriminate bombing of Israeli civilians, and feared losing political power to these foreign-funded groups (Iran, Syria, and Iraq).

Claiming "loose links" allows the AP and its clients to adhere to the fiction that the Palestinians want peace through a two-state solution and that Israel has no choice but to work with Yasser Arafat. The ICJ decision is of a piece with this same thinking. The international community refuses to recognize that the Palestinians have waged a war not of liberation but of annihilation, to which their tactics obviously attest.

To render judgement on Israel for building a wall in its own defense while remaining silent on Arafat's complicity in bombing Israeli civilians is not only an abdication of all responsible thought, but amounts to little less than judicial pornography. Had the ICJ existed in 1941, no doubt it would have promulgated a ruling chastising Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto for its armed defiance of genocidal maniacs.

Put simply, the IDF wall/fence kills no one, bombs no civilian into chunks, drives no nails at three-digit speeds into the eyes and torsoes of women and small children. As demonstrated in Tel Aviv this morning, the Palestinian government does all of those things. The ICJ's decision to prosecute Jews for defending themselves unfortunately upholds a grand European tradition we thought had passed with the liberation of Auschwitz, and speaks to the wisdom of the US in withdrawing from its jurisdiction.
