In its most recent polling, a CNN/Gallup survey shows George Bush maintaining an eight-point lead over John Kerry among likely voters -- and in an unusual twist, his lead increases to thirteen points among registered voters:
The survey of likely voters showed 52 percent would vote for Bush and 44 percent for Kerry. A similar poll conducted from Sept. 13-15 showed Bush with 55 percent compared to Kerry at 42 percent. However, among registered voters Bush's lead widened to 13 percent with 54 percent supporting the president and 41 percent backing Kerry. It was up from the earlier poll in mid-September that had 52 percent of registered voters behind Bush and 44 percent in favor of Kerry.
It exactly reverses its last polling numbers, exchanging the 8- and 13-point leads between the two measures. Bush's momentum keeps pushing along, and although the previous Gallup poll appeared to be more of an outlier, the similar results this time points to a substantial Bush lead that Kerry has yet to dent.
