Kevin Aylward at Wizbang has the 2004 Weblog Awards polls up and running, and blog enthusiasts can cast one vote per day per category. Captain's Quarters has been included as a finalist in at least one category, Best Conservative Blog, and in the extremely early stages, I have a small lead over some very tough competition. I may qualify for one more, Best of the Top 100, although that may wind up capturing some who didn't make the cut in other specific categories. I'll double-check later. (I am a contributor for a group blog, Blogs for Bush, that received at least two nominations in other categories.)
I hope you'll take a look at the embarrassment of riches Kevin supplies for people to explore the blogosphere in more depth. Later on I may publish my votes in different categories, but for now I just want to congratulate those who have been nominated along with me. Pennywit, for example, posts frequent and challenging comments and is just a very nice guy, even though we often disagree. He got nominated in the Best Liberal Blog category. I know Power Line also received multiple nominations, and there are plenty of others.
The contest runs until December 15th. Be sure to check it out!
UPDATE, 12/3: As Kevin explains in the comments to this post, the nominations this year restricted blogs to mostly just one category, which is why voters see some of the matchups they do. I think that's a wonderful idea, and it allows a lot of excellent bloggers to get more exposure and more recognition for their great work.
So far, I've been fortunate enough to build up an early lead against some very tough competition for Best Conservative Blog. Thanks to everyone who's voting for CQ ... and I hope you continue to do so, both at the Weblog Awards and by your visits here.
