The Clinton Presidential Library holds an estimated two million documents relating to Hillary Clinton’s activities as First Lady — a record on which she has explicitly based her campaign for the presidency. She has a page dedicated to it on her campaign web site. Her mantra, “strength and experience”, rests on her tenure in the White House.
So why won’t the Clinton library open these records to the public? The Los Angeles Times reports that the presidential library won’t release them until after the 2008 election. At Heading Right, I note the contradiction of a candidate running on a record she won’t publicly release, even though other First Ladies have been more forthcoming with their papers.

It’s none of our business which defense lawyers, private investigators, foreign contributor bagmen, public relations consultants, terrorists, union officials, furniture movers, or criminal pardon negotiators she met with as First Lady. Just trust her. It was all valuable experience that will come in handy when she gets back into the White House.
The hero of the army of Genghis Khan, John Kerry hid his military records as well. The Dems have only rhetoric and posturing. It works to better effect when the record is what they can say it is. Casual observations of fact are smears and attacks.
I’m reminded of Benjamin the mule reading the barn.
Say… Didn’t she try to hide the records when she was trying (oh so valiantly!) to save the US health care system back when Slick was in the Oval Office?
Hillary will release her records – as soon as Sandy Burger pays a little visit to the Clinton Library.
Yep sealing records just shows you have something to hide.

In fact I would argue that someone who engages in that level of secrecy has no business being in the White House.

She has every right to seal them. But hard for her to say then, that’s her major experience qualification for the office. What experience? She can’t have it both ways. She says she was involved in policy discussions. Was she in the room? Was it on her daily schedule? Or did her “policy discussions” consist mostly of pillow talk?
Hillary literally scares me to death. That she would be the Pres is a fright beyond compare.

This reminds me of how Hillary’s husband-of-convenience, our former President, broke long-established Presidential tradition by refusing to release his medical history.
At the time, Clinton’s defenders said it was no big deal. But Dr. Raymond Scalettar, a former Chairman of the Board of the Trustees of the AMA, had this to say about Presidential candidates releasing their medical records:
“For private individuals, medical records should be strictly confidential. But a presidential candidate is the potential leader not only of this nation but of the world. The issue is different there. A candidate’s medical conditions and treatments are directly relevant to the decision the electorate must make.
Health can affect a candidate’s campaigning too, and when that happens we should know about it. In the 1960 campaign I was involved in the care of then Vice President Richard M. Nixon, who injured himself and developed a septic arthritis in his knee that required a 2-week hospital stay.
It has been said that vice president Nixon’s illness and recovery which was delayed by a relapse, was the reason that he looked wan and haggard on television during the debate with Sen. John F. Kennedy about 1 month later.
The illness certainly affected his candidacy. Nixon lost by a narrow margin. We were open about the vice president’s condition and treatment at the time and we needed to be. When someone is running for an office as important as president, there should be no room for misunderstanding.”
The good doctor of course is too polite to note that the other side in 1960 kept John F. Kennedy’s Addison’s Disease as secret as they could.
As for Hillary, if she’s running on her record as First Lady, why is she trying to keep that record hidden? She’s obviously hiding something…
This is extremely significant. Of course she is hiding something. If Democrats love these worthless wild goose chases which amounts to nothing, why should we be shunned by something that would be worthwhile to all.
This is almost as good as finding what is hidden in Area 51 and who shot JFK. My guess is that we would be able to deduce if Vince Foster was “whacked” by Hillary and her cronies. That would be something- wouldn’t it?
I just hope she doesn’t have personal access to the library and do a “Sandy Berger.”
Actually, there is a totally innocent explanation for this-maybe this stuff is being kept “secret” because there’s absolutely nothing there? As in NOTHING she “did” as co-President ever went anywhere.
After all, it later turned out that one reason Jean-Claude Kerry hid some of his military records was because it showed he actually had lower SAT scores than that doofus Dubyah.
Hillary’s secrets are irrelevant. No one really cares, and the DOD bureaucracy won’t allow them to be released until they can be screened for classified info anyway. That can take decades to do.
No matter how much Hillary scares me (and she does), her 2 “first tier” dem opponents (Obama and Phoney-Baloney Edwards) scare me a lot more. I would take Hillary any day over those two.

Presumably President Bush will suport her if she claims executive privilege. She was, after all, an advisor to President Bill Clinton.
