Yesterday on CQ Radio, I spoke with Rep. Tom Cole of the NRCC on a wide variety of topics relating to the Republican caucus in the House. However, I decided to ask Rep. Cole his opinion on the YouTube debate towards the end of the interview. I thought he might demur, given his focus on Congress rather than the presidential race, but instead he gave a rather impassioned plea for Republicans to engage in the debate.

Republicans should follow Newt Gingrich’s advice and refuse to participate in any more ‘amateur hour’ cattle shows, which demean and diminish the office of the presidency.
Instead they should create a series of one-on-one debates, of 90 minutes each, one a day until all the candidates have had the opportunity of debating each of the others, and then start over.
In these true debates, there should be no questions from anyone, other than the candidates themselves, and the function of the moderator will be just to keep time.
They will air on C-Span and on the Internet.

Why does no one bring into this conversation the fact that the Democrats canceled the Fox news debate? The Fox news republican debate was by far the best mediated debate this political season. I think that was a much more egregious snub then the Republicans missing the YouTube debate.
What can the Republicans lose by ignoring this Ted Mack YouTube presentation?
The majority of people I know who are involved with YouTube are young people. They are for the most part air heads.
The questions asked the Democrats were really juvenile and lacking in depth.
I see where some Republicans”leaders” are saying we can’t afford to pass up this opportunity since the Dems
had participated. Brilliant! let’s follow the Dem-wits since they are so gifted in public relations.
The Republicans should go to FoxNews, have Brit Hume, Major Garret, Juan Williams,and Chris Wallace ask the
questions and let the chips fall where they may.

I fixed that for you edward. Since the news that republicans are considering bucking the YouTube format is now getting some mainstream airplay, I’ll go on record as saying that republicans who refuse to “face the music” stand to lose much more than they can actually afford.
By all means, skip it though. Doing so will only provide yet another republican “mis-step” for the dems to pounce upon and use to their ultimate advantage.
Like someone else said in American Spectator, I think, if you want the MORON vote then You Tube is going to be Disneyworld. When even JOE BIDEN said the questions were stupid and a waste of time, well……! No one ever accused HIM of being a quick study! 😉
