Pulled Pork In Placer County

The Club for Growth’s RePork Card has had its first success. Placer County GOP chair Ken Campbell has announced that he will no longer endorse Rep. John Doolittle, the longtime Republican appropriator who scored a whopping 2% on anti-pork voting:

Former Placer County Republican Party chairman Ken Campbell, a longtime financial backer of Rep. John Doolittle, said Friday that he is withdrawing his support of the nine-term Roseville Republican because he has betrayed his conservative roots.
Campbell based his conclusion on a recent Club for Growth report on votes this year on 2008 spending bills to eliminate “wasteful pork projects.” Doolittle scored just 2 percent, the average score for Democrats and well under the Republican average of 43 percent.
Campbell has been a longtime supporter of Doolittle, with about $10,000 in political contributions to his reelection in the last decade. The most recent contribution was $400 in May.

Doolittle has a number of problems, and the RePork card is not the worst of them. He had some connections with disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff, which made his last election more difficult than any before. The FBI still has its probe active on Doolittle, which hangs like a Sword of Damocles over his seat.
One might think that with all of the negative publicity surrounding his pork-barrel habits, Doolittle might have at least tried a miracle conversion to the anti-pork cause. Apparently not, as his 2% voting record on earmark reform demonstrates. At least Doolittle will go out on a consistent note.

  1. ”Doolittle scored just 2 percent, the average score for Democrats and well under the Republican average of 43 percent.”
Well, we finally quantified the Congressionial Corruption Quotient.
Democrats are statistically 20 times as corrupt as the GOP.
So, the old canard isn’t true — they aren’t just the same. But both are pitifully inadequate.
Republicans would win every election if they would just act like true Republicans.

  2. Hello Ed-
If your readers want to tell GOP leadership to stop supporting corruption, while at the same time helping elect someone with unique national security experience, then send them to the site of a solid conservative who is challenging John Doolittle:

  3. To “Major E” for Congress:
I appreciate your desire to root out corruption in the Republican Party. This is a theme I’ve been hitting on for well over a year. But Eric Egland has an inconsistent record with respect to opposing corruption. After all, he supported Rep. John Doolittle just nine months ago. Where was this anti-corruption ferver then?
I hope a good, conservative, anti-corruption candidate who recognizes the threats of Islamic fascism to Western Civilization emerges in Placer County.
