Would Early Primaries Allow More Donations?
Jim Geraghty at The Campaign Spot believes that candidates will benefit if primaries and caucuses get pushed into 2007. A loophole in campaign finance regulation appears to allow an extra $2,300 per donor for candidates if those elections are held this year. Be sure to check out Jim's analysis, and the surprising candidate that may benefit the most.
When Tom Met Jeralyn
One of the interesting aspects of politics is finding out that opponents are people, too. Jeralyn Merritt of TalkLeft met Rep. Tom Tancredo backstage at NBC's studios, and found him more likable than she had anticipated. Perhaps it was their mutual interest in Dog, The Bounty Hunter ...
Joe Lieberman A Right-Wing Nut?
That's what CAIR says, according to Joe Kaufman. He has a link to a CAIR official's blog post that calls Lieberman, along with John Bolton, former CIA director James Woolsey, and the Heritage Foundation's Peter Brookes as "extremists". Affad Shaikh also calls Dick Cheney a "fat bastard of a liar," apparently not meant as a pop-culture reference to the Austin Powers movies. (via Let Freedom Ring)
Broadband Homelessness
The Japanese have made homelessness more efficient, and more Net-friendly, too. Their Internet cafés have become homeless shelters for the struggling manual-labor sector. The problem has grown into such a problem that government intervention will shortly become a political priority.
Found My Law Firm
Power Line links twice to this story regarding an attorney at Faegre & Benson who refused to become a victim and helped capture a very dangerous man. Keith Radtke is a partner in the firm as is Power Line's John Hinderaker. Radtke is listed in satisfactory condition after getting shot in the back, but that didn't keep him from locking up his attacker in a wrestling grip until police could arrive. I don't know about you, but that's the kind of man I'd want as my counsel ....
Don't Click That YouTube E-mail
The latest in spam seems to be redirections from YouTube links in e-mail to IP addresses without domain names. They attempt to entice people by making it seem that they have been inadvertently YouTubed. I'm sure most people can see through this scam, but just in case, you've been warned ....
Rick Moran Escapes The Floods
Rick Moran has kept us up to date on his travails along the Algonquin River. Yesterday, the police showed up to get him evacuated before the river flooded his home -- but today, Rick finds that a minor miracle has taken place, and that his house survives ... at least for now. Keep Rick in your prayers, and keep checking in at Right Wing Nut House for updates.
Rule 1: Drag The Corpse On Over First
If I've learned anything in four years of blogging, don't try to be out in front of the death rumors, especially with the villains of the world. Saddam died a hundred deaths before we caught him alive in his spider hole, and Abu Musab al-Zarqawi almost as many before his demise last year. Osama may or may not be alive, but everyone's avoided speculating on his fate for a while now. Maybe Val at Babalu Blog will get luckier with his "Castro Is Dead" story. We all hope so. I'll wait for the announcement ....
Hobbs Choice
Volunteer Voters is holding its annual "Best of Nashville" on-line polls, and one of the categories is for the best political writer. Our friend Bill Hobbs, now posting at Newsbusters, and he'd like his on-line fans to cast their votes. Drop by and put one in for Bill if you get a chance!
Murtha Getting Backlogged On Apologies
Gary Gross of Let Freedom Ring sees another case collapsing on the Haditha charges. He's called for Murtha to apologize earlier, and adds another reason to the tally.
No Such Thing As 'Moderate' Islam?
Turkish PM Tayyip Erdogan told a television interviewer that he finds the label "moderate Islam" offensive. Shrink Wrapped has a lot more on this, but at least in the same interview Erdogan acknowledged that "radical Islam" exists, and that it's been a catastrophe. Be sure to read the whole post.
MS-NBC Gets Punk'd
Power Line has a great post on a lack of journalistic effort on the part of MS-NBC. In covering the Michael Vick story, they reported on what they thought was Al Sharpton's website proclaiming Vick's innocence. I guess Alex Johnson and two other MS-NBC reporters couldn't bother to read the title bar of the site, which proudly proclaims it as a "parody site".
New Instapundit Podcast On Pharmaceuticals
I just caught this e-mail from Glenn Reynolds about his new podcast with Richard Epstein, the author of Overdose: How Excessive Government Regulation Stifles Pharmaceutical Innovation. Haven't had a chance to listen to it yet, but the topic is important enough to make sure I carve out time for it tomorrow. Get their first and tell me what I'm missing ....
Fed Trying A 'Stealth Easing'?
The Federal Reserve seems to have conducted a quiet campaign to steady markets that started spinning out of control, according to King Banaian at SCSU Scholars. He thinks that the Fed has conducted a "stealth easing". Be sure to read his explanation and follow his lnks.
A Shameless Bit Of Sel-Promotion
Gateway Pundit and Val at Babalu Blog note a crass PR move by Hugo Chavez. Venezuela has responded to Peru's eathquake disaster with food shipments -- and with Hugo's smiling picture on the cans. He also uses the tuna-can label to undermine President Garcia of Peru, who narrowly defeated Chavez' pal Ollanto Humalla, whom the labels extol for his "solidarity" with Chavez.
Tacky beyond belief.

My vote would be non stop profanity with the not so soothing sounds of his violin in the background. LOL!

If he comes out of the closet because of this, you're going to owe him an apology.

Henry is busy trying to come up with someone named Fred, for whom something very important is happening in 2008.
Posted by Mal | August 10, 2007 10:42 AM
The missing choice should've been "Being contacted by a family member explaining how ill poor Henry has been lately; and requesting that you stop posting for reasons of decency."

hmm, well it seems he deleted the klan-specific keywords from the page, but still has "Fred Thompson, Fred Tompson, Fred Thomson" up there

Wait, you forgot to include a Ron Paul option in your poll.
I would say all of the above, with a comment from Ron Paul thrown in, just because he can.

What a CROCK! I'm close enough to Santa Monica! I SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO CHEAT AT THIS!!!

As an officer of the court, aren't there ethics standards that would result in a judicial consequence for Mr. Reynolds, Esq.?
Or have standards of conduct for lawyers deteriorated so much that this behavior is now considered par for the course?

Eh ... that one. Yep.

I think this story, which owes everything to the good Cap’s sleuthing, is being looked at the wrong way, as an attempted smear of Fred Thompson. As with some presumed hate crimes, to claim with certainty that it was his intent to smear Thompson involves a claim to know his intent. Rather than portraying this as a badly thought out attempted attack by a Democrat supporting leftist against a Republican, we should simply stick with the demonstrated facts of the matter. While the ‘imwithfred2008’ url could be mistaken for Thompson’ ‘imwithfred’, for all we know Mr. Reynolds’ Klan recruiter and Grand Kleagle, may well be named Fred, as opposed to say Robert, and the two are taking a romantic cruise together in 2008.
The facts themselves should be generating some action, and we should try to facilitate that. A practicing attorney in Santa Monica and repeated contributor to Democrats took actions with the intent to steer people to – the Ku Klux Klan! It is that simple. Surely the local NAACP chapter will demand an answer, if they are advised that this happened! Maybe Jesse Jackson and Al Shartpton will get some answers from Mr. Reynolds that Cap’n Ed can’t, as well as a public admission of guilt, an abject apology, and some donations in large unmarked bills! Perhaps the local papers will advice the myriad folks in the area who have and/or might be considering using Mr. Reynold’s legal services that he has links, and has established links of his own accord, to that most notorious home grown hate group!
Surely there would be no difference in reaction if a Republican supporting or a Democrat supporting attorney set up a web site that would lead people to the Ku Klux Klan’s propaganda pages on the Net.
I’d suggest asking the local NAACP chapter what they think of Mr. Reynold’s actions, for a start.

"Maybe Jesse Jackson and Al Shartpton will get some answers from Mr. Reynolds that Cap’n Ed can’t, as well as a public admission of guilt, an abject apology, and some donations in large unmarked bills!"
That will only work if Mr. Reynolds is white. Anyone happen to know?

I've been trying to imagine the scenario in Mr. Reynolds' office in Santa Monica. I see him furiously hunched over his computer, tap tapping away, panic-stricken at having been uncovered, and frantically trying to push the toothpaste back into the tube without quite knowing what each push will lead to. The shades are drawn, the afternoon sun is warm but blocked out, and you can see dust motes floating around through the stray sunbeams. The phone is ringing, and answering machine answering, and his computer is pinging at incoming e-mail announcements. Doubtless he's also on and using at least one, if not more, cell phones, pleading his case with personal friends, begging for help from computer hackers of his acquaintance, and calling other attorneys to ask their advice on behalf of a "friend of mine that this happened to." I wonder if the Edwards campaign has a personal cell phone number for him, or if they, too, have been relegated to the ignored answering machine.

Interestingly, his personal site is hosted by Mecca Hosting, Inc. ; his e-mail address is available on his personal website.
Update VI: the site www.imwithfred2008 (which is hosted by godaddy on one of its secureserver.net servers) now displays the simple text "This website is temporarily unavailable." Maybe the Wikipedia folks got upset at all the redirects.

Sorry, it'll never happen because whatever color he may be, Reynolds is a Democrat. If Reynolds was a Republican he would be torn to shreds by those two race-baiting suckheads.

Whoops. My mistake. The Frederic Jameson website is still framed by the www.imwithfred2008.com site. However, the meta tags associated with the site are "Fred Thompson, Fred Tompson, Fred Thomson", which pretty much establishes the intent of the site owner.
If I telnet to www.imwithfred2008.com port 80 and do a GET http://www.imwithfred2008.com/ , i get the "temporarily unavailable" message.

It'll never happen because if you admit you're wrong enough to apologize, then that makes you culpable and liable, and people can sue your slimey little ass then. As an attorney Mr. Reynolds will be very well aware of the hazards of apologizing.

The Domain now displays the Wikipedia Fredric Jameson page BUT it is displayed in a frame. The HTML code for the site still has the "description" and "keywords" defined as fred thompsom. This will cause the robots that search engines use to list the wikipedia page when searching for Fred Thompsom .
It is obvious that this is the intent. Mr. Reynolds even uses different possible spellings for Fred's name.

Maybe everyone should give him a call and ask for an explination.
Even funnier, call and pretend to be part of the klan and praise him for his work. Tell him that all your klan friends are spreading his info back and forth to each other. Invite him to the next klanbake.
