The NARN Press Conference (Update: Chertoff’s Anglo-Saxon)

Our radio station has a new website, and the Northern Alliance Radio Network decided to hold a press conference to launch it. Of course, we wanted to follow the example of our open and honest FEMA representatives … and I think you’ll see that we did a pretty good job of using their template. You can listen to the podcast here.
UPDATE & BUMP, 7:28 PM: Via CapQ commenter Del Dolemonte, Michael Chertoff got a chance to dust off his Anglo-Saxon, and we’re not talking about the upcoming release of Beowulf:

The homeland security chief on Saturday tore into his own employees for staging a phony news conference at the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
“I think it was one of the dumbest and most inappropriate things I’ve seen since I’ve been in government,” Michael Chertoff said.
“I have made unambiguously clear, in Anglo-Saxon prose, that it is not to ever happen again and there will be appropriate disciplinary action taken against those people who exhibited what I regard as extraordinarily poor judgment,” he added.
Asked specifically if he planned to fire anyone at FEMA, which is part of his department, Chertoff declined to say, citing personnel rules.

This might be the most encouraging development so far in this embarrassment. However, the “personnel rules” go out the window when those personnel lie and impersonate reporters for the purpose of defrauding the public. Their fates should be public record, Anglo Saxon and all.

Today, I’m going to catch up with Mitch on the various topics we’ve missed in the three weeks I’ve been gone from the show. UPDATE: We also interviewed David Bellavia, author of House to House, an excellent book about his experiences in Iraq, both as a soldier and a journalist. It’s an excellent segment, and it gives a great insight into the mind of the men and women who serve on the front lines. Best sequence: when Mitch asked him what he thought about people who say they support the troops but not the mission, David asked us what we thought about people who say they like us as radio hosts but think our show stinks. Mitch replied that he says, “Thanks for tuning in, Mom!”
