Not Celebrating This One

A few in the blogosphere have decided to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Monica Lewinsky scandal. Ten years ago, the Drudge Report first broke the story that would eventually lead to Bill Clinton’s impeachment — and some say Hillary Clinton’s career in the Senate, although that seems a bit of a stretch.
It marred politics and deepened the bitter partisanship that had begun with Watergate and worsened with the Robert Bork confirmation process. Worse, it embarrassed the United States and it brought the government to a standstill. It impacted our efforts to respond to both Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda, and in the end brought nothing but misery for everyone involved.
I don’t see anything in particular to celebrate here.
