It's Friday, so it must be time for another edition of the Captain's Caption Contest! John Kerry's taking a couple of days off, se we're going to give him a break. After all, it's been a long week, a trial, if you know what I mean. You don't? I think this guy does:
Yes, here's your opportunity to caption the Master of Disaster, The Mother of All Mother******s himself, Uncle Saddy! Our guest judge this week will be Bill from INDC Journal, an excellent blog that mixes humor with some terrific on-the-ground photojournalism (and regular journalism, too, for that matter). But there's a catch this week ...
Bill is currently raising funds for the family of Captain Dan Eggers, a Green Beret that Bill knew in high school who lost his life in the effort to free Iraq from the genocidal maniac pictured above. His PayPal tip jar has stalled out at $2,793.41, and before he closes it up altogether, I want to give everyone here at CQ a chance to help out the family of a true patriot who gave his life in service to our country.
So leave your comments on the comments page, and as always, put your best caption entries in the comments section -- NO e-mail, please! (E-mailed entries will be sealed in an empty French wine bottle and placed under the rear tires of Barbra Streisand's hybrid limousine.) The contest will remain open until 8 pm Sunday, July 4th, at which point the comments will be closed and Bill will pick the winners. You don't have to donate anything to enter or win, but let's remember who's judging, okay? I've always said that bribes are most welcome for the CQ caption contests -- this time I'm serious. Let's show the Eggers family how much the blogosphere supports them, regardless of your position on the war itself.
Have fun, and drop something in the tip jar -- anything you can spare will help the Eggers. Let slip the captioners of war!
(And don't forget -- commenters registered with Typekey get their entries immediately posted, rather than wait for approval!)
UPDATE: I'm offering a guest spot -- one post, any subject, any point of view -- to the CQ reader who donates the most between now and July 4th. Minimum donation: $50. I'll only edit it for grammar, formatting, and to protect myself from libel or copyright liability. Make sure you let Bill know that you're a CQ reader when you donate so you can claim your prize!
UPDATE II: Bill's calling this the Mother Of All Caption Contests. Damn! Why didn't I think of that one? (You'll notice it's not too late for me to steal it, however ...)
UPDATE III: Check out this funny separated-at-birth comparison between Uncle Saddy and a well-known celebrity at Irreconcilable Musings -- after you've hit the Eggers' tip jar, that is!
COMMENTS CLOSED: Great job, everyone! The comments are now closed. Don't forget to hit the Eggers' tip jar one more time at INDC Journal, and have a great 4th! Winners will be announced later on tonight or early tomorrow morning ...

I was checking out the most recent Captains Quarters's Caption Contest and was struck with the realization that there's a striking resemblance between our favorite Iraqi ex-dictator and our favorite (and perhaps only) right-leaning ex-SNL cast member. [Read More]
