Another Crack In The Media Blackout For Eason's Fables

CQ reader Rodger M. tips me to some correspondence that he has had with Pittsburgh Post-Gazette columnist Jack Kelly, one of the few members of the mainstream media who pushes back against these blackouts. Rodger have me a preview of what Jack will have to say:

The scandalous remarks of Eason Jordan, CNN’s top news executive, last week at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland (where Europe’s elite goes once a year to sneer at the United States), and the failure of the major media to report them suggest the distortions are deliberate.

Jordan told a panel that the U.S. military had killed a dozen journalists in Iraq, and that they had been deliberately targeted. When challenged, Jordan could provide no evidence to support the charge, and subsequently lied about having made it, though the record shows he had made a similar charge a few months before, and also earlier had falsely accused the Israeli military of targeting journalists.

Jordan’s slander has created a firestorm in the blogosphere, but has yet to be mentioned in the “mainstream” media. Gee, I wonder why not.

Jack Kelly regularly writes on national-security topics and has a national following. Rodger notes that this still isn't news coverage, but that's how these blackouts disintegrate. First the blogs show that they won't let go, then the commentators catch fire from us, and then the news sections won't have a choice but to cover it.

If Hugh has Chris Wallace and Chris Matthews talking about this after Jack Kelly writes his column, the avalanche will have begun. We need to keep the heat on CNN and Eason Jordan to ensure it.

UPDATE: It's already in today's Toledo Blade. Kelly has more than one bone to pick with his fellows in the media. (hat tip: Capitano)

Jack Kelly's column in today's Toledo Blade is a must read. He deftly exposes how the media has been missing the story in Iraq. While incompetence may be factor in that, evidence suggests it is a deliberate slanting of the news by overemphasizing on... [Read More]
