Hospiblogging, Day 4: Good Progress

Sorry for the lack of posts about the First Mate so far today. I've been at work most of the day, and as soon as I got to the hospital, I had a teleconference that I needed to complete (good stuff, too!).

The First Mate is doing very well. She's now walking without too much assistance, except for the normal sighted-guide routine. Her blood sugars are still in the low 100s, but they have kept the insulin drip going to make sure it stays that way, which is normal. A couple of tubes have been removed, but not the stomach tube yet. That can't come out until her digestive system reawakens from the anaesthesia, and walking around will help that out.

Today she seems much more herself than the past three days, smiling and conversing in her normal voice (as normal a voice one can have with a tube up the nose, that is). She's telling all the nurses that I'm bringing my "mistress" on my visits -- the laptop -- and that I'm blogging her recovery. One nurse wanted to know more about blogging, so I brought a copy of Hugh Hewitt's Blog and gave it to her to read. Who knows -- maybe we'll inspire a nurse blog in the Twin Cities that will blow the lid off of health care!

Marcia's going to try to get some sleep now, but she wanted me to thank everyone who's written and posted comments with their thoughts and prayers. She's very touched you're all thinking about her.
