Egypt And Jordan, White Knights

As Gaza spirals into the civil war that should surprise no one who has paid attention since the Palestinian Authority elections last year, some in the international community have finally figured out the obvious: the Palestinians are completely incapable of self-government. For the first time in decades, whispers of Egyptian and Jordanian custody for the territories have been heard:

Gaza was on the brink of civil war last night as violent clashes between Palestinian factions spiralled out of control.

Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian President, threatened to declare a state of emergency today, as fierce fighting raged on the streets.

But as the death toll climbed to more than 40 in four days of the worst fighting since Mr Abbas forged a coalition Government with Fatah’s rival Hamas two months ago, he appeared powerless to stop it.

He can't stop it, because Hamas has no desire to govern. They have no desire to partner with anyone. They want unfettered dictatorial rule over the Palestinian territories, because they want to make war on Israel -- a war that will result in the destruction of one nation or the other. All Abbas can do is to declare a state of emergency and try to regain control with his militias, which will exacerbate the conflict and start the civil war in earnest.

Abbas has one more political card to play: the self-destruct sequence for the Palestinian Authority. Once he initiates its collapse, Israel has to administer the territories directly once again, which will add the IDF to the civil war and create absolute chaos in both Gaza and the West Bank. If Hamas wants a civil war, Abbas can give it to them in spades -- but that may be the only viable solution:

Some Palestinian analysts predict that a collapse of the Palestinian Authority would pave the way for Jordanian custodial rule in the West Bank and a similar arrangement for Egypt in Gaza.

“The message is the Palestinians cannot rule themselves. This fighting will only end if a third party takes over,” said Ibrahim Abrash, a political analyst in Gaza.

Israel would love that solution. While neither nation has shown any warmth for the Israelis, they have relations with both. Israel knows how to work for practical purposes with both King Abdullah and Hosni Mubarak. Someone will have to twist the arms of both to get them to take back these Arabian sinkholes. Other members of the Arab League will have to push it hard, but they may also see that the Palestinians have left them with no other options.

The only other option is to roll out barbed wire, point guns all along both borders, and wait until the Palestinians finish doing what they do best: killing their own. If Jordan and Egypt want to see something different, then they'll need to start taking control of their former territories. (via Instapundit)

UPDATE: Jules Crittenden shows why statehood for terrorists isn't such a hot idea.

Palestinians are fighting, since external forces interfere with them. That means do-gooders from EU (cash, no work required), that means Iran (ideology and war technology in exchange for your kids blowing themselves up), that means probably some smaller players elsewhere.
But the good news is that the wall seems to work…

Wasn't a movie made about those monsters called "Natural Born Killers"?

If Eqypt and Jordan are the white knights, doesn't that make Gaza and the West Bank white elephants?

Ripper, I was thinking more along the lines of "Escape from New York"

could we start deporting convicted murderers to "palestine"? Making lemonade out of lemons, after all.

The Palestinians have always belonged to Jordan and Egypt because that's who they really are - Jordanians and Egyptians. There is no such thing as a Palestinian.

Let the Arabs oppress the Arabs. Then, no one will care or pay attention. Mubarak and Jordan will beat down Hamas and not think twice about it.

And they want to bring that lovely system of "government" to the entire Holy Land?

God save Israel from their lunacy.

Getting harder and harder for Middle East media to maintain the "poor innocent Palestinians" drum beat.

I wonder if it's also getting harder and harder for imams of the Religion of Peace to maintain the "Muslims don't kill Muslims" drum beat, given every evidence to the contrary in Iraq, Gaza and West Bank.

The last time the Jordanians showed any compassion for the Palestinians they wound up having artillery duels in the streets of Amman and their king was almost deposed.

If they do get involved, look for an exciting new definition of the term "zero tolerance.'

Israel for decades did what every neighbour never wanted to do [To govern the coatic, volatile & palestinian mobs]

while Israel decisively managed the outbreak of loose violence in the west bank by (physically) segmenting the west bank into isolated cantons... there is no real intentions toward Jordan.

Gaza remains [Limited Area, Densly populated, Totally Resorceless, with no hope of self-sustaining, and exploding demography] an (all-out-of -control-Tumor).

Sharon took the right decision to cutt-off all connection with the strip, leaving it with individual outlet with Sinai.

Egypt (amazingly!) just realized the menace on their borders, and concerned that they may be left alone to handle the Tumor !!!!!

I have long maintained that Jordan should absorb the 'Palestinians' on the West Bank, and that the boundary between Israel and Jordan should be the Jordan River. Israel should stop pussyfooting around and just make it so.

As for Gaza, let Egypt have it. But insist it be demilitarized forever.

Still, war materials aren't free. Who is paying the bills to supply the "palestinians" with everything they have? Probably not Eygpt or Jordan. Though the supplies run through them. And, there's always graft.

In a sense, isn't this reverting back to the 1948-1967 position, only without Nasser?

Posted by Carol Herman | May 17, 2007 11:55 AM

In August 2001, before our 9/11, the Saud's had writted to Bush that they were furious with the White House; and they threatened Bush by saying they'd increase the prices on oil. And, do other mayhem. Unless he "re-evaluated his position towards Israel, and stop showing so much sadness over Jews killed by palestinians."

Bush responded with a two page, hand-written, letter to faisal. That promised faisal, Bush would see to it that a palestinian state was formed right alongside Israel's borders. Faisal was so happy with this letter, he showed if off. (Meaning? Israeli security had the scoop. And, Arik Sharon "knew.")

The letter was such a triump for faisal, he invited other arab leaders to Riyadh just to read it. Arafat made a special trip.

Again, the Israelis had to know.

Then, when 9/11 came Bush jumped through hoops to announce wahabbism to be "the religion of peace."

It's one of those things. Just like, today, there are references to Abbas being dragged about, like a man who got his foot caught in the stirrup of a runaway horse;

That there were plenty of worries on how to deal with this thing.

It sure looked like Arik was on-board the train to give gaza back. And, he had to spend two years training the IDF to do this without a modicum of violence. (It was one of the reasons the IDF fell short when Olmert, using the IDF, tried to retrieve the two kidnapped soldiers, taken by Nasrallah.) As if Nasrallah didn't have war plans!

It's what's NOT reported, that seems now to be coming out. And, filling in these blanks.

I'm pretty sure, too, that James Baker is pushing the Saud's to fund the mayhem in gaza. Why? Because it would "halp" Bush if gaza exploded into a war zone. It won't. The Israelis are not going to go in. But this was what the arabs thought would happen.

Instead? It seems Olmert has good enough defensive plans, without tipping his hand. And, he's already used missiles quite accurately, to kill a few of the hamas leaders. I'd also bet there's a full list of targets.

What I think Olmert shows is a clear understanding of the politics. As did Arik Sharon. And, he is NOT looking to "deal any good cards" to his enemies. Be they in Riyadh, or in James Baker's offices.

Did James Baker ever adjust his attitude that Israel is "that shitty little country?"

By the way, the neo-cons (Richard Perle, among them), are American Jews. Never on Israel's radar screen, even. SInce there weren't any Israeli "worshippers" among those who were asking for Iraq to "get it.") And, they're also no longer on board Bush's train. Long gone, now, from the White House planning room. Where James Baker has pulled up his chair.

I'd also guess that one of the reasons there are pressures on Israel, is that the arab world is very divided. ANd, lots of them hate Riyadh. Hate the Sauds with a passion.

But arabs? They can galvanize around their hatred of the Jews. So, that's why, I think, there's billions in funds available, to arm the palestinians. Which, yes, have also created problems for Jordan and Eygpt. (The Palestinians are like a forest fire; where you watch it burning, knowing full well if the winds shifts, they burn down the ruling houses in Eygpt and Jordan. While Maliki sits and counts the days Iraq can push the sunnis/wahabbists out of Iraq.)

We just don't get straight news, anymore. We see there was pressure on pushing Olmert out of office; but the Israelis, themselves, aren't asking for this. Just political groups, who had a lot to lose, when Arik Sharon planned it that way.

By the way, the worst part of gaza, now; is that all the residents are under the thumbs of the thugs. They're forced to give up their cars. And, money. For safety. And, those who can are fleeing. Already gone, or planning to go to Jordan. And, Cairo.

Who says James Baker has to win, here?

YAWN. Sorry, Palestinian Sympathy Fatigue is wearing me out. That aside, it's too much to think that Jordan or Egypt would really want to get Palestinian Arabs in their nation with a literacy rate of 91% and a history of participating in real elections.

Posted by Carol Herman | May 17, 2007 5:14 PM

Hmm? A literacy rate of 91%, you say? Does that come from needing to read the instructions on a suicide belt?

And, if these people are so smart, how come they fire machine guns into the air? Seems, with a literacy rate of 91% they've left off the scientific information that bullets that go up, come down. And, they can smack a bystander in the head. Oh. Their headgear is designed to confuse the bullets, huh? Those tablecloth patterns. You can just see the bullets hanging there, trying to decide how to fall safely to the ground. Must be God's will. Or what is it these idiots shout out? A-LOO ... watch out. Or something like that.

The real reasons, by the way, the palestinians are unwelcome is that they're intellectually bereft of human traits. Like having a conscience. While, yes. They are used by the Saud's.

The Saud's. Who have their own problems, seem to think that Israel wants nothing more than to go into gaza, or lebanon. No. I don't think so.

But the pot's being stirred. Because the Saud's are gambling this way. They want the arabs to unite.

Where lots of arabs hate their guts.

So they stir up the palestinians.

Ya know, in Iraq, the first group to be "asked to leave" were the imported palestinians Saddam used as the thugs he needed to keep his populace terrified. He's gone now.

Bush wasn't quite prepared to deal with arab behaviors. While the Iraqis weren't ready to deal with out CIA "gifts."

For the past four years we've been watching a stand-off. While the Saud's keep tossing their money into terrorism. Seems the palestinians like to receive all these munitions as gifts. No UNECEF canned goods of food for them. Not Halal. Jordan and Eygpt are being flooded with palestinians, now. Those who can, are upping and leaving gaza.

Imagine, for those in gazoo. It was better under the israelis. No. They're not interested in going back in.

Posted by Carol Herman | May 17, 2007 8:11 PM

et's see? These palestinians "widened the war" with Israel, without having tanks or an air force. And, while on the ground they've got fronts going against each other as the fatah are firing on the hamas. And, nobody's safe. The thugs run around the streets with guns. And, their efforts is just to send propellants into the air. Where they fire tin cans.

Yet, as kids, were they involved in science? Most kids at Cal Tech can tell ya, that when they were young their parents took out more fire insurance. Because playing with chemicals that you can shove into pipes; to see how far "out" you can send something out of your backyard, isn't all that uncommon.

Now, why would these idiots be so involved with shooting kassam tin cans at Israel? Who blasts them back from a target list the Mossad must have, that's at least a yard long.

I guess the Saud's need some "action" on another front; where arabs ... many of whom hate their guts ... will come together for "kumbaya." Or what would pass as arab unity.

I guess James Baker has a front row seat to this show, too? Huh?

And, Israel's doing everything possible to retaliate against the palestoolians. Who, now, when they hold funerals, if they're not killing people by shooting their guns in the air; are getting killed by missiles that really can hone in on the backsides of the Hamas "leaders." I guess there's more where that came from?

How much longer will this go on? How much are the Saud's willing to keep on investing?

When Dick Cheney was in Riyadh, and he told the "chief turbaned wonder" that he had to "double-down" ... at what point does it become foolish to keep propping up the palestoolians, who are hell bent on committing suicide?

I've seen wars. And, I gotta tell ya. There's no hitler here. There's no rolling tanks. Or "luftwaff" breezing out of the sky, and peppering cities with deadly night bombardments. And, that was in WW2. When the mlitary might was a lot less sophisticated.

But the hamas seem to be winning on the local level. Of course, if a bunch of soccer hooligans were sent in, the Hamas wouldn't even be winning a thing.

And, neither hosni mubarak nor Ab-dull-lah as possible in Jordan, really want the palestoolians coming into Amman or Jordan.

So, this is war, huh?

Guess Bush flubbed the ball promising faisal, in August 2001 that he was going to be sure to create a palestoolian state with borders on Israel, before he left office.

No, Bush hasn't been accused of INFAMY yet.

But if he thinks gazoo needs to be protected from the IDF; which is what would come out of the background if the IDF didn't carefully apply force ... Have I got news for the Bush's. And, their "bid/ness." Up ahead. It's just a wonder who he gets to drag down with him.

As if Bush #41 didn't learn from the boot that kicked him out of office, James Baker was a disaster. But he's got the Saudi contacts. Some stupid way to be progressing in the Mideast. Gotta tell ya.

While Tenet's book gets rave reviews today in Ha'Aretz. Seems the Mossad called Tenet, by the nickname of "Greaseball." An identifyer that put him up there with mafia types. Slippery.

Well, there's more slip and slide, I guess, where that came from!

And, Wolfowitz just got kicked out of the World Bank. Who put him in there? Oh, that was Bush. Because he gave the Medal of Freedom to Tenet. And, he needed something that would shut the maniac, Wolfowitz up. For the time being.

Israelis learn and grow when they find themselves on the diplomatic stage. And, notice Olmert isn't losing points.

Carol, I get it. Folks who think Gaza should be absorbed by Egypt and the WB by Jordan may not know. According to the 2007 CIA world fact book - the West Bank and Gaza has a literacy of about 91% - as opposed to Egypt and Jordan's 48%. That, - along with a history of voting in real elections, a penchant for intolerant Religious militias, political parties and a parasitic outlook on their lot in life would make the Palestinians personna non gratis in any ME tyranny.

Today, May 18th, DEBKA is running a headline that says TEHRAN is now in Gaza, and that's why there's an escalation of the "tin cans flying."

IF Abbas would use his trained army (at America's expense into the hundreds of millions of dollars) to go after Hamas; where NOW the real meat is coming from TEHRAN's sending in two terrorists "to take over.") Then Israel could do a pincer move from behind; cleaning out the hamas rat's nest.)

ABBAS REFUSES TO MOVE.

Yes, the Saud's at first, thought if Israel got involved in a war in gaza, (or now also threatened up north, bia either lebanon or syria); world opinion would help the arabs united. Since "everybody hates the Jews."

Olmert's a pretty smart fella. He's responding with hits against hamas, that seem to be drawn from a detailed accounting of where the bad guys ARE in gazoo. And, that's how he retaliates.

While in Sdederot, some of the people see a chance for "free vacations." Something that the settlers took, and are still sitting in hotels, where they refuse to vacate to any housing arrangements. These are internal problems within Israel, itself.

While the politicians in Labor, and the Likud, who lost voters, are rip tearing at Olmert, to get their power seats back.

Seems to me the Israeli public, for the most part, is giving Olmert the chance to stay seated. Until his term runs out? He got a four year run, last March. But according to statistics, Israelis "go to vote" for new elections EVERY TWO YEARS.

Labor has to make a decision on May 28th. Whether to discard Amir Peretz as their leader; which would force new elections.

That's not how Olmert bet his government's standing. he purposely went "weak," away from the Likudniks who saw disaster looming. So they jumped from Likud to his ship. But they'd knife him in the back, worse than Livni tried to do it.

In other words? After Arik Sharon won the prime-ministership in 2001; it didn't take Labor two years to decide to "leave the government. They then sat outside in the cold. No portfolio. No political jobs for their minions.

Politics and wars aren't the same thing.

Israel's being attacked by mosquitoes. Condi Rice would run in, fast, if she could "push the IDF back, as soon as gains got made."

Don't trust Condi. And, Bush? He's the Realtor for the Saud's.

Meanwhile? Olmert seems to be holding his government together, which is a good thing.
