The Raid Hotline In Southern California

Illegal immigrants are mad as hell, and they're not going to take it any more. Claiming that the government "terrorizes" illegal by arresting them, activists have set up a hotline in my old stomping grounds of Orange County, California to tip off illegals when and where the ICE will conduct raids on employers (h/t CQ reader Stoo):

Responding to a refusal by city leaders to declare the city a sanctuary for illegal immigrants, more than a dozen people gathered outside City Hall on Monday night to denounce recent immigration raids, accusing federal officials of "terrorizing" immigrant communities and breaking up families.

A coalition of local immigrant rights groups, including the Orange County Alliance for Immigrants Rights and the Front Against the Raids, announced a planned program to create a hot line that will notify people where and when immigration raids will take place. The program would also coordinate a support system for the families of deportee targets.

"We want to have a more organized effort to counter these attacks," said Jaime Conteras, a 20-year-old Filipino immigrant who now lives in Santa Ana. "We cannot let people trample on our rights."

During five days of raids in June, 175 people in Orange County were arrested on suspected immigration violations. The raids arrested 27 suspected criminals, including a man wanted for murder and a convicted child molester. Santa Ana was one of the targeted cities.

Out of 175 suspected illegals, a seventh of them turned out to be wanted on other criminal charges, including murder and child molestation. And this is bad ... how?

Conteras needs a little more instruction on what constitutes rights. People who enter the country illegally have the right to due process on deportation, but they do not have the right to not be arrested for breaking the law. People who break the law get arrested when and where they are found, and it is not "terrorism" to arrest them at home, despite what immigration "activist" Khang Tran believes. If parents want to protect their "small children" from feeling fear, they should not come into the country illegally.

Now these same activists want to warn people of impending raids by setting up a hotline and trolling for tips. That should constitute interference with law enforcement, but the Orange County Register -- which helpfully includes the phone number -- doesn't mention that in its report. If someone set up a hotline to tip off criminals about an ATF or DEA raid, you can bet your bottom dollar that it would get the attention of the local US Attorney lickety-split -- and this should be no different.

UPDATE: Of course, Michelle wrote about this yesterday! Be sure to read her excellent post.

About 25 years ago I was in an area where I became aware that the police were operating a sting to arrest Johns. I saw a man approach a couple of women standing on the corner and yelled out to him to be careful because there were lots of police around. Guess what, I found myself being arrested and hauled in a paddy wagon to jail for interfering with a police officer. No crime had even been committed yet. Our society sure has "progressed" a long way in the last 25 years.

Okay, so how do they know when the raids will take place? Inside info? Crystal balls?
If I was an ICE agent, we'd hit separate areas and not limit ourselves to just one area.

Chalk it up to me living less than 2 hours from the Mexico border, but my solution REMAINS Bounty Hunters -- if they were alllowed to confiscate 100% of hte ILLEGAL ALIENS' goods of those they catch this side of the borders, we could clear this nation of illegals in a couple of months.
Then no families would be broken up - they'd all be on THEIR OWN SIDE of the border.

Makes me FURIOUS when they talk about "THEIR RIGHTS" to not be "HARRASSED" by law officers.

We KNOW they get that idea from LIBERAL DIMS. Time for some SUPPORTERS to go to jail for Treason.

Californians have a huge battle on their hands; the far left has a firm grip on the majority vote in every big city with the lone exceptions being San Diego & Orange County. Democrats don't control the government in California, hard left Liberals have taken a once great state and turned it into a welfare state.

California compares to Great Britain; middle class American workers (families) are taking flight and leaving the state by the thousands. The cost of living in California (as compared to most other states) has much to do with the problem. State taxes, city taxes, coupled with federal taxes wipes out about 60-65 cents on the dollar; insurance costs are some of the highest in the country due to the high risk with stolen cars, uninsured drivers by the hundreds of thousands, house theft; on and on... California used to be a Republican state; businesses flourished with silicon valley and the aerospace industry leading the way. Liberals took over the state following the Reagan era, and have chased most of the good paying jobs out of the state. Liberalism simply doesn't work; hasn't worked any where in the world; hasn't worked any where in the United States (New York & Louisiana for examples). Great Britain will soon be a second world country, heading rapidly towards third world status.. This is 100% due to Liberalism and an open border policy that rapes the middle class in order to pay for the immigrants and the huge welfare program in place. California has the same virus attacking the middle class. Redistribution of wealth is a failed Liberal policy that will destroy everything in it's path.

California needs to be in the spot light, now and beyond. Let the American people watch Liberalism in it's raw form; let the American people judge for themselves just how good or bad this ideology is. We have history recorded on California under the rule of Republicans; now we have history unfolding in California under the rule of Liberals. Let the people watch and learn....

I am wondering how they (the hotline operators) deal with false positives. Enough of those and their system becomes unreliable to their customers.

Round up the illegals, deport them post haste and arrest anyone who aids and abets these lawbreakers! Maybe some jail time would make them think twice - and we're not talking 'Paris' time, we're talking hard time!

And just for those who think we can't round up, I was given this little goodie:

"Back during the Great Depression, President Herbert Hoover ordered the deportation of all illegal aliens in order to make jobs available to American citizens that desperately needed work. And then again in 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower deported 13 million Mexican nationals! The program was called "Operation "Wetback" so that American WWII and Korean veterans had a better chance at jobs. It took 2 years, but they deported them! Now, if they could deport the illegals back then, they can sure do it today!! If you have doubts about the veracity of this information, enter Operation Wetback into your favorite search engine and confirm it for yourself. Reminder. Don't forget to pay your taxes... 12 million illegal aliens are depending on you! "

Unfortunately, the bleeding hearts and the ACLU will definitely be against this. Where does the insanity end?

Excellent suggestion RossM. I have often thought that all ICE needs to do is drive around these areas (Home Depot parking lots) in plainly marked vehicles and get the word out that the area is not a safe haven. Maybe pay one guy to ride in the backseat so they think we mean business. Eventually, they could be herded back toward their homeland to be happily reunited with the rest of the clan.

As to "rights" here is how it works. First, you live up to your responsibilities (follow the rules like every one should) and then you get some rights. It's really that easy; but when you cut in line, you have a right to get lumped.

FYI, USC 18.1.1.2 (emphasis mine)

Whoever, knowing that an offense against the United States has been committed, receives, relieves, comforts or assists the offender in order to hinder or prevent his apprehension, trial or punishment, is an accessory after the fact.

I'm not a lawyer, but it sure looks to me that the activists are accessories. I think they should be prosecuted as such.

it will be interesting to see if operations such as this continue. previously any push back from illegals and their supporters stopped all these efforts. that is the primary reason all the laws have always been ignored. when the legal system on the city level gets clogged with lawsuits all efforts are halted.

where's the fence?

One speaker talks of his "rights".. What rights? He is here illegally . . . he uses illegal means to take employment from a bonefide citizen . . . he uses social benefits that he has never contributed to . . . what rights does he have? Except for the one mentioned in the article . . . the right to deportation! Lets review the works of earlier raids on illegals . . . use some of their tactics . . . it worked then . . . why not now!

Orange County residents who want to do something about illegal immigration now have a new option. Instead of calling ICE, who will probably do nothing, they should call the hotline at 714-973-7806 and report that the site is about to be raided. Then watch the illegals scatter. Much more effective, and as an added bonus, enough calls like this should render the hotline unreliable and ineffective for reporting actual raids.

I say we ALL call them as often as possible. overwhelm their "system" so bad that no one goes to work anywhere there if they are illegal. Suddenly they have solved the "problem" for the rest of us. No work = no illegals.

the small western kansas town I live in has gained two wonderful families from southern califiornia. "We just wanted to get out of the rat race that California has turned into, and we wanted our child to get an education."

Keep up the good work California, we will take your outcasts.

I'm am impressed by the massive amount of popular support for the illegals, indicated by the twelve people who showed up to protest. Why wasn't this protest front page news on every city's daily broadsheet?

Posted by swabjockey05 | August 9, 2007 10:59 AM

Before you guys call the hotline...you'd best practice your Hispanic accent...I'm sure they'll filter out most of the callers who sound like Gringos trying to screw the pooch.

Instead of pushing for amnesty for those who break our laws, why dont we try to actually penalize illegal immigrants by making them inelegable for citizianship. We have a fifty year history to look back at and it is very clear that if you reward illegal immigrants with promises of citizenship, you will see a dramitic increase in illegal immigration. We really need to make a law that says that if you are in this country illegally, you and your offspring and extended families will be forever disqualified from any chance at citizenship.

As far as these activists go, they are nothing more than accesories to criminal behavior and should be treated as such and arrested.

You have to wonder what misinformation and lies they're feeding each other if they actually believe they have any "rights" whatsoever.

One thing I'm really sure America doesn't need any more of is really stupid people ... especially if they don't speak English.

Posted by Arty | August 9, 2007 12:55 PM

The bounty hunters are a great idea Rose and they can use the hotline to make their job easier. They can even do the actual deporting once it's verified someone is an illegal.

Posted by FedUp | August 9, 2007 1:10 PM

Just another thought (not an original)... how about when we catch an illegal alien, we give him a uniform, a gun (maybe ammo...) and ship his sorry butt to Iraq! Then, in the event that he serves honorably and survives, we will grant him citizenship. That should solve two problems at once....

if that doesn't fly - deport them to countries that are NOT where they came from.

Forgive me... too much coffee!

Posted by Nony Mouse | August 9, 2007 1:25 PM

I'm shocked, nay horrified that people would even think of calling the hotline with false information. Why, the illegals could loose their jobs, that Americans won't do for less than minimum wage, and then where would we be?
Even worse would be agents themselves calling about a certain location with police around to pull over anyone speeding or driving recklessly...

Bman said,"...the small western kansas town I live in has gained two wonderful families from southern califiornia. "We just wanted to get out of the rat race that California has turned into, and we wanted our child to get an education."

Thanks for the laugh Bman. Kansas is VERY well known for the quality of its education.

Sounds like an organized effort to undermine ICE.

Organized. Hmmmm.

So, shouldn't they be arrested for violating the RICO laws?

Posted by cgage | August 9, 2007 4:10 PM

I'm with RossM. Spam the hotline.
