Changes Almost Here

Earlier this summer, I announced that Captain's Quarters would undergo a face lift. My site designers, The Blog Studio, have worked hard to make the changes as quickly as possible. Peter and Lucia have been enthusiastic about taking my sometimes contradictory concepts and making them into reality.

And now I can tell you that the wait is almost over for the new launch. On Tuesday, we will start working to switch from the old design to the new Captain's Quarters. It may take a little work, and we may have a few ups and downs while we get the kinks out, but we're looking forward to the new CQ -- and you will see that we have taken your input into account in the new design.

So what will be new?

* Faster load time
* New color scheme and logo
* Easier to read
* New e-mail and print functionality
* Same old blogger

Speaking of the same ol', a couple of characteristics won't change. Blog posts will not be truncated; you won't have to click to read the entire posts. Comments will remain open as they are now, and hopefully the scripts will execute a little more cleanly.

I have a surprise or two for CQ readers to find at the launch. Be sure to keep your eyes open -- and also be sure to let me know what you think. I hope you will find the new Captain's Quarters to be a big improvement over the current design.

Good news, Cap'n!

The existing system is a bandwidth (?) pig, locks up IE when you try to print anything, doesn't work worth a damn in Mozilla, and takes five minutes to post a comment.

1. I agree with all of Sharpshooter's comments.

2. I hope the new site fits on the screen page, unlike Michelle Malkin's re-design.

To the Most Esteemed Proprietor:

Would it be possible, when you re-do the layout, to put the poster's name at the BEGINNING of his/her post rather than at the end? When an individual has shown themself to be deranged, rabid, and/or uncurably stupid or uninformed, it's such a hassle to read part of their drivel, recognize it as being such, and skip to the end to confirm that it's a know driveller who can be safely ignored.

If you see the name at the first of the post, you can just skim by it, saving both time and blood pressure spikes.

Great about the changes, appreciated!

Guess I come from the school of "it ain't broken, don't fix it" ;-)

Seriously, your site is much easier to read than many, i.e. Michelle Malkin's new format. I don't find using Comments difficult or time consuming.

To the user having problems with Mozilla/Firefox.....I use it and have had no problems whatsoever. I'm running V2.0.0.6. NOTE: I can also access CQ using I.E.; I just prefer Mozilla. My O/S is Windows XP.

For those of you who are having problems, it might also be helpful to know what O/S you're using & its SW version level.....same for your browser level. It's been my experience that if I continue to use a version of SW because I'm familiar with it and don't update it as I should, eventually I had problems.

Personally, I love this particular layout and format. (Michelle's new format is a step backwards from her old look - just my subjective opinion).

I have one complaint and one complaint only: When I post a comment, it takes fo-evah for it to finally "hit" or whatever the proper techie word for it is. Slowest process in the known world, if not the entire universe. Methinks that is why you sometimes see double posts (I double posted myself a few times as a newbie)....people think their post hasn't "gone through" (again forgive the ignorant layman's terms).

Is speeding up the process in the works?
