Bill from INDC Journal was surprised to receive a letter from the Democratic National Convention credentialing him as a journalist under its blogger program. Bill openly speculated that they hadn't really checked out his website and wondered whether to spend the money on travel, especially since the DNC waited until the last minute to inform him of his acceptance, but decided to go despite the added expense the delay cost him.
That's when the other shoe dropped ...
Last night, I received the following e-mail:
Last week you were sent a credential allocation letter not properly authorized by the DNCC for press coverage of the 2004 Democratic National Convention.
Upon further review of the overall site capacity at the FleetCenter, we are no longer able to issue your organization a DNCC Press Gallery Credential. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. ...
If my guess is correct, an after-action review of the content of my site (for an example, see post directly before this one) caused them to disinvite me after they invited me, after I made travel arrangements that carry a significant cancellation fee. If my suspicions about content rejection are incorrect, then their planning is simply clumsy and merciless towards independent journalists that don't have expense accounts.
In other words, the DNC voted for INDC Journal, before they voted against it. Apparently, nuance is contagious.
Bill still hopes that they will reconsider and has asked them to reinstate his credentials. I wish him luck, but I rather doubt they'll be inclined to do so. It does demonstrate that the DNC seems to be as incompetent as their candidate; after all, they only had sixty-something applications to vet from bloggers. How long does it take to browse through that many web sites? Three hours, tops?Sphere It View blog reactions

Very interesting to read how Bill's DNC press credentials were revoked due to "site capacity" issues. I just took an order for business cards from a liberal blogger whose DNC press credentials seem to still be right where he left... [Read More]

I posted something a couple of days ago regarding bloggers being credentialed to cover the conventions. Well, it seems that at least one blogger received his credentials only to have them taken away the next day by the DNC. Bill at INDC Journal was o... [Read More]
