Time to Set the TiVo

Power Line's Hindrocket lets us know that he will be appearing on the Twin Cities' PBS program, "Face to Face", which is a Minnesota Nice version of Crossfire. The program airs this Sunday at 10:30 am and the panel reviews the credibility of politicians. [You can get a half-hour discussion out of that? Well, he is a lawyer ...] He's already taped the segment and notes: I think the show will be pretty good, although, in these half-hour formats, there's a limit to how much you can do. I tried to work in two or three facts that many people don't know--like the cyanide block found in the al Qaeda safe house in Baghdad, and President Bush's 1972 Air National Guard evaluation. I'll post a review of the show later on Sunday. If you're in the area, make sure you tune in. UPDATE: Apparently, Power Line's had a busy week...

Hindrocket on Face to Face

Hindrocket of Power Line appeared this morning on Face to Face, a local PBS show that owes its format to CNN's Crossfire. Today's topic: credibility issues with politicians, focusing on Bush and Kerry. Joining Hindrocket was Buck Humphrey, a Kerry campaign activist. I may be biased -- hell, I am biased -- but Hindrocket came across extremely well, while Buck Humphrey couldn't look anyone in the eye during most of his answers, looking askance or downward almost the entire time. Hindrocket had excellent answers at the ready -- his answer to co-host David Lillehaug about the cyanide-salts find in Baghdad shut that thread down immediately. Hindrocket scored a direct hit on Kerry's hypocrisy, using the Majumder corruption case as an example, and Humphrey stumbled trying to change the subject to an irrelevant assertion that Kerry never took PAC money. (I'd like to think that John used the entry from my...

Airheads, Continued

We are seven days away from the launch of the Northern Alliance Radio "Network" show here in Minnesota, and we're all gathering at the studio for a dry run today, as almost all of us have never worked in radio before. The folks at AM 1280 The Patriot have been very hospitable in allowing us to descend on them today and will be teaching us the equiment and the timing of hosting a talk show. Next Saturday, we will be going live on the air here in the Twin Cities (pray for their inhabitants, the poor souls) from noon to 3 PM. The group of us, who can be found in my blogroll on the left -- the only place you'll find them on the left, by the way -- are still ironing out format and scheduling. We hope to eventually have a live streaming Internet link through The Patriot's...

Airheads Poised On The Brink

We're almost exactly 24 hours away from the debut of the Northern Alliance radio show on AM 1280 The Patriot here in the Twin Cities. Mitch Berg will play center and moderate the three-hour talkathon; I'll be on in the first hour tomorrow, discussing events from the past week and interacting with callers. I'll join Saint Paul of Fraters Libertas and Hindrocket from Power Line. Mitch has the rest of the schedule on this post, and I may duck back in for a segment during the last hour, depending on availability (and whether I have anything intelligent to say). If you're in the broadcast area, make sure you tune in to The Patriot for the launch, and call in. For those outside of the Twin Cities, we're hoping to get a streaming service for the show very soon. Keep checking at the Northern Alliance site for more news and information....

Northern Alliance Radio: Live Blogging!

We're a little over an hour from the start of the Northern Alliance Radio show here in the Twin Cities, and as I said earlier, I will be live-blogging during the second and third hours, complete with digital photographs of the gang. Keep checking back on this post! 12:01 - We're all getting settled into the booth. First segment: Mitch, Hindrocket, Saint Paul, and myself ... 12:07 - Our first topic was graffiti in public restrooms -- yeah, we're rolling, baby! ... 12:16 - Out to our first break, after discussing John Kerry and the "inept" accusation. When we come out of our break, we'll have our first caller on the line ... 12:26 - James Lileks is our first caller, and talks about Kerry's assertion of starving the troops of equipment -- he reminds us of Black Hawk Down ... 12:46 - We've taken three callers, and the last...

A Few Notes From The First Show

I've just returned home from the first Northern Alliance Radio show's wrap party at the Rocket Man's house, and I wanted to make sure I closed the loop on some of your comments and questions, as well as thank a few people. First, thank you for your comments on the post. When we get a little better at this, we'll take the e-mails on the air just like callers, like Hugh and Michael Medved do. Right now it's all we can do to chew gum and walk at the same time. (Talk radio with Gerald Ford -- now there's a concept.) A couple of people asked about live internet streaming, and I can tell you that we all want that, including the station, but it will likely be an expensive proposition and they'll want to sell some advertising first. I think we proved today that we have a product, and...

Northern Alliance Radio: Live Blogging!

Once again, we gasbags bloggers of the Northern Alliance march bravely down to AM 1280 The Patriot to do our weekly radio show. We're trying to find a streaming service that won't charge us an arm and a leg for a three-hour stint once a week (most of them charge a flat monthly rate based on 24-hour-a-day usage), so that you can tune in, turn on, and drop in. With any luck, in a couple of weeks, we'll be live on the Internet. Until then, I'll be live-blogging again today, where we'll be discussing topics such as John Kerry's accusations against Bush and the Republicans, the Madrid bombing and what it might mean for the war on terror, the launch of the liberal radio network AirAmerica, our weekly Hack Columnist of the Week in the Twin Cities, and JB Doubtless and I will debate the artistic merits of Mel Gibson's...

Northern Alliance Radio: Big-Time Guests Today!

It's Saturday, so it must be time for another installment of the Northern Alliance Radio Network! Today we have two fascinating guests: Kenneth R. Timmerman and Thomas Lipsomb. Timmerman wrote the fascinating book, The French Betrayal of America, which I have just started -- my Reagan book will have to wait, I'm afraid. Lipscomb has reported on John Kerry's involvement in the Phoenix Project, an assassination plot that targeted pro-war American politicians in a 1971 meeting, which Kerry at first categorically denied and then was forced to recant after contemporaneous FBI reports placed him there. If you're in our listening area, make sure you tune into AM 1280 The Patriot from noon to 3 PM today!...

Shot In The Dark Back From The Darkness

Just a quick note to let everyone know that Mitch Berg's fine site, Shot In The Dark, had its ISP disappear out from underneath him yesterday -- and it took his domain name with it, at least temporarily. His site can be accessed at http://www.shotinthedark.info ... be sure to update your blogrolls and bookmarks!...

Northern Alliance Radio On the Air Today!

It's Saturday, so it's time for another installment of the Northern Alliance Radio Network. Unfortunately, I won't be there today -- I have a prior commitment at an Irish-language workshop. (I've got to post on that later on ...) The rest of the gang will be there, reviewing the week's news stories, interviewing important guests, and dissecting the local media. Be sure to tune in if you're in the area....

I Did Stay At A Holiday Inn Express

If you're listening to Mark Larson filling in for Hugh Hewitt, just an FYI -- none of the Northern Alliance are college students. I'm the father of a college student, and King at SCSU Scholars is a college professor, but none of us are students, to my knowledge. I wouldn't mind being the oldest freshman on campus, though. I watched "Old School" with Will Farrell and Luke Wilson. I could handle that whole wrestling scene. Fraternities should contact me as soon as possible for party scheduling ......

Stealing Air: Filling In For Hugh

As most of you already know, the Northern Alliance of Blogs stepped in for Hugh Hewitt as he went on a top-secret mission at one of our nation's fine military colleges, the Naval Academy at Annapolis. (We're not entirely sure about this mission, but the Elder claims that he has the goods, complete with pictures.) The Northern Alliance took over Hugh's show on both Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, driving his listeners to consider Dead-Air America as their back-up radio choice in the event Hugh takes any more time off -- even though they were playing Marcel Marceau's Greatest Hits (Dance Remix Version) all night Wednesday in LA. I can't tell you how much fun it is to be in a radio studio with terrific guys like the Elder and JB from Fraters Libertas, King Banian from SCSU Scholars, and Big Trunk and Hindrocket (who was unfortunately out of town for...

Northern Alliance Special Guest Today!

Today, on the Northern Alliance Radio Network show (heard on AM 1280 The Patriot in the Twin Cities, and soon on the Internet to the world!), we have a special in-studio guest for our third hour. The Fraters Libertas gang has lined up Mike Nelson of Mystery Science Theater 3000, who has graciously agreed to sit in with our line-up of fanboys. Because the Captain lost the coin-flip (and allegedly too closely resembles Dr. Clayton Forrester), I'll be banished to the Green Room during the third hour. So I will be live photoblogging Mike Nelson's visit on this post -- keep checking back during the show (12-3 CT) for updates! We will also be fortunate to have as call-in guests during the second hour Yale professor Charles Hill on John Kerry as a literary character, and Doug Tice from our local newspaper, the St. Paul Pioneer Press. If you're in...

Northern Alliance Radio Debates Bad Music

It's Saturday and time for another installment of the Northern Alliance Radio Network, from noon to 3 pm CT. In the third hour today, we will be debating which pop songs represent the worst of pop music, an argument that started with Blender Magazine's 50 Worst Songs of All Time (complete list here). Blender, however, demonstrated its complete ineptitude by including such songs as "Sounds of Silence" by Simon and Garfunkel and "Longer" by Dan Fogelberg. Even if you don't particularly like those songs, you can't argue that they're the 42nd and 30th worst songs of all time! Here's my list of songs which I will be taking to the AM 1280 The Patriot studio in a few minutes, in no particular order except at #1, which is the worst song of all time, bar none: 1. I've Never Been To Me - Charlene 2. 99 Luftballoons - Nena 3....

Northern Alliance Radio: Our Investors Don't Panic

Don't forget that the Northern Alliance Radio Network will be broadcast in the Twin Cities this afternoon, as usual on Saturdays, between noon and 3 PM. I suspect that one topic we may indulge will be a little Schadenfranken over the continuing debacle over at Err America. As the Chicago Tribune reported yesterday, more ra -- er, people seem to be deserting the sinking ship while others insist on rearranging the deck furniture: In yet another sign of trouble for Air America Radio, the liberal talk network's co-founder and chairman, Evan Cohen, resigned Thursday along with his investment partner and vice chairman, Rex Sorensen. The company also failed to make its scheduled payroll Wednesday, leaving its staff of roughly 100 writers and producers unpaid until Thursday. ... "We're on a wild ride," said Jon Sinton, the network's president, acknowledging that Air America has suffered "the typical bumps and bruises faced...

Northern Alliance Radio Needs A New Logo - Obviously

As I've mentioned already in the Caption Contest post, the Northern Alliance Radio Network is holding a contest for a new logo. The guys at Fraters Libertas has already blogged about the contest, in a post accurately titled, "Our Logo Blows Contest". Here's the current blow-worthy logo that NARN has struggled under: Mitch Berg cooked up the logo by spending three minutes in Microsoft Paint, which as Mitch notes in his post on the subject, was three minutes more than any of us bothered to spend on the idea. However, we were more than happy to spend lots of minutes trying to determine the meaning of the logo. Did it point north? Was it a wedgie? (The studios get pretty rough when the Fraters guys are around, after all.) Did it represent us as pointy-headed intellectuals? We do have two lawyers and an economics professor on board. Saint Paul at...

Northern Alliance Radio On The Air For Hugh Hewitt!

The Northern Alliance Radio Network will fill in for Hugh Hewitt on his radio show tonight -- meaning we get to go national again! Almost everyone from NARN will be in studio for tonight's show, and we'll rotate through in order to get as many people on the air as possible. I'll be on in the first hour, when we have Kathryn Jean Lopez from NRO and Frank Gaffney scheduled as guests. If you don't get Hugh's show in your market, get the Internet feed from KTKZ in Sacramento! If you want some background on Hugh, however, check out the Elder's comprehensive biography of the Lord High Commissioner of the Blogosphere. I didn't realize Hugh fought in the Battle of the Big Birds ... UPDATE: As always, guest-hosting Hugh's show was a complete blast! Kathryn Jean Lopez and Frank Gaffney are regular Tuesday guests on the show, and they were...

Northern Alliance Radio Network Updates

The Northern Alliance Radio Network logo contest is almost closed now -- we're picking the finalists right now, and shortly will post the five logos we like best. We'd like our readers to cast their vote for the best logo to represent the Northern Alliance. We'll post them up at our radio-show site in the next few days, so keep checking in to get a look at the fantastic graphics that we've received. Quite frankly, we're stunned at the quantity and the quality of the submissions! Big thanks to everyone who participated. Also, on today's show, we were fortunate enough to have Stephen Hayes, the author of The Connection: How al Qaeda's Collaboration with Saddam Hussein Has Endangered America. Stephen gave our listeners terrific insight into the breadth of connections into Saddam's involvement with AQ and terrorism in general, which the media used to report as gospel but changed their...

Calling All Upper Midwest Bloggers ...

If you're a blogger in Minnesota (or anywhere within driving distance of the Twin Cities), we really should get together sometime. There are a lot of cool people writing blogs - or even just reading them - in the Upper Midwest, and we should definitely try to meet sometime. So the Northern Alliance is throwing a shindig - a non-political, ecumenical one - for bloggers in the area, and we'd like all you bloggers to be there! Here's the deal: We'd like to meet at Keegan's Irish Pub in Northeast Minneapolis, on Saturday, July 24, at 5PM. We'd like to spend a few hours hanging out, meeting other bloggers, and just having some fun. Cash bar? The whole place IS a cash bar! By the way - this is not a "Northern Alliance" event, just a random social thang. Interested in being there? We'd love to get a headcount. Please...

Northern Alliance Close To Streaming Deal

For those of you who have not been in the Twin Cities area during one of our Saturday afternoon Northern Alliance Radio Network shows on AM 1280 The Patriot, we may have good news in the next few days for you. We have started negotiations with a sponsor to pay the cost to retransmit our show over Internet streaming, meaning that the NARN will be heard worldwide in a short period of time. We will all announce this as soon as the deal materializes and the streaming service contract is signed. In other NARN news, we have a couple of key dates coming up. Next Saturday, July 24th, we're calling all bloggers to meet us at Keegan's, a Minneapolis pub often patronized by the Fraters Libertas gang, at 5 PM. We want to meet all of our fellow Upper Midwest bloggers, regardless of political affiliation. If you can make it,...

Meet The Whole Northern Alliance Gang Tonight!

One more reminder for everyone about tonight's social hour with the Northern Alliance at Keegans, tonight at 5 pm in Minneapolis! If you're a blogger, a blog reader, or even someone who's reading this because someone played a joke on you, you're invited. It doesn't matter what your political affiliation is -- so I expect to see Miles and Arne there ... right, guys? Let me put it to you this way -- if you keep me occupied there, I can't be here converting liberals to conservatism, can I? Can you resist that challenge? Come on by and meet the crew. Let's take an evening off and have a few laughs together. When you see me walking this afternoon, I guarantee the first chuckle....

Northern Alliance Get-Together A Rousing Success!

The first Northern Alliance social get-together at Keegan's Pub in Minneapolis was an absolute blast! We were fortunate enough to have James Lileks join us and the rest of the Twin Cities blogging community this evening. I got to meet Jay Reding, DC from Brainstorming, as well as some great CQ readers such as Pinkmonkeybird and Don. I met Dave from Dave's Picks for the first time -- he's one of the original Twin Cities bloggers, and he and I kept the bar from falling down for a while. Thorley Winston from Tacitus was there, as well as the Warrior Princess, whose link escapes me at the moment. I couldn't stay long -- the back was killing me -- but I did get some pictures, which I will post later. I'm probably going to take the rest of the evening off to rest it. Don't forget that next week we'll...

Hugh Hewitt's Site Down, Will Return Momentarily

The Lord High Commissioner of the Blogosphere, Hugh Hewitt, has experienced some technical difficulties this afternoon and his site is down. I'm assured that his crack technical staff is already working on the solution and will resolve the problem very soon, so keep checking back. In the meantime -- you should buy his book! UPDATE: It's back up!...

Northern Alliance -- Live Streaming To The World!

Tomorrow marks two big firsts for the Northern Alliance Radio Network -- our first live remote and our launch of Internet streaming! (It requires IE 6.0 to work ...) Yes, for the first time, people around the world will be able to hear the Northern Alliance show live. We've promised it for months, and thanks to the Minnesota Taxpayer's League, it's finally here. We'll be appearing live at The Estates At Diamond Bluff, which has sponsored the First Annual Patriot Picnic, where we'll hopefully get lots of audience participation. I know the Fraters guys have something special cooked up for the third hour, especially, so if you're in the area, come on by! The food and soft drinks are free. If you're elsewhere, be sure to tune in! UPDATE: Hey, a time would be nice, wouldn't it? Sorry -- it's noon to 3 PM, Central Time. BUMP: It's today at...

Northern Alliance Streaming Again Today .... Only Better!

Our Northern Alliance Radio Network will be streaming again to the world this afternoon, noon to 3 PM CT, at this link (requires Microsoft IE). Northern Alliance Radio Streaming Today!

Don't forget that the Northern Alliance Radio Network (including yours truly) will be live-streaming our radio show today from noon to 3 pm CT. The link to the stream is on the left sidebar of my blog as well as at the Northern Alliance link and at the website of our local Salem affiliate, AM 1280 The Patriot. The stream is sponsored by the Taxpayer's League of Minnesota, which also just became a CQ sponsor. TPM has its own show at 9 am CT on Saturdays, so be sure to get into the stream right now and listen for David Strom's excellent commentary. I have a lot of e-mail off of the Alston stories that I will be weeding through in order to move the story forward later on today, hopefully. Keep checking back -- we have lots more information flowing in. I'm certain that we'll be talking Alston and...

Straight Into The Heart Of Darkness

Fellow Northern Alliance members Scott "Big Trunk" Johnson and John "Rocket Man" Hinderaker of Power Line perform a public service for Twin Cities residents in today's Minneapolis Star-Tribune. Since the Strib has decided not to cover questions regarding John Kerry's credibility in its news section, the Power-houses of the local blog scene have invaded their op-ed section instead: The story of his 1968 Christmas in Cambodia is one that Kerry has told on many occasions over the years. He invoked the story in 1979 in the course of his review of the movie "Apocalypse Now" for the Boston Herald. Most recently, Kerry told the story -- with remarkable embellishments involving a CIA man who gave him his favorite hat -- last year on separate occasions to reporters Laura Blumenfeld of the Washington Post and Michael Kranish of the Boston Globe. ... Over the past few weeks, the Christmas in Cambodia...

Michelle Malkin On The Northern Alliance Today!

The Northern Alliance will have Michelle Malkin as our special guest on today's edition. Be sure to tune us in at AM 1280 The Patriot, or on our live Internet stream!...

Northern Alliance Live At The State Fair!

If you haven't yet caught our Northern Alliance Radio Network show, today would be a great day to start! Not only will we be appearing live at the Minnesota State Fair, in front of throngs of our admirers (note: "throngs" = 7 or more, right?), but take a look at the guest list we have for today: Hugh Hewitt, Mike Nelson (MST3K fans, rejoice!), and James Lileks! You can listen on AM 1280 The Patriot if you're here in the Twin Cities, or on our live Internet stream sponsored by the Taxpayers League of Minnesota. (Make sure you enable pop-up windows in order to make the streaming software work.) What projects are on Mike Nelson's plate these days? What does James Lileks have to say about deep-fried sausages on a stick? Will Hugh Hewitt renege on his trivia-contest bet? Tune in from noon to 3 pm CT and find out!...

A Man Of Honor, And A New Steeler Fan?

We had a great time at our live appearance at the State Fair this afternoon, and having Hugh Hewitt and Mike Nelson as our guests attracted a large number of fans to our booth. Hopefully, all who came had just as much fun as we did. Speaking of Hugh, he ended the suspense and took his medicine, as you can see here: Being a gentleman, he offered to wear the hat during the entire half-hour appearance, but I gave way so he could wear a hockey helmet in order to answer questions from the Fair audience in his role of Minnesota State Hockey Commissioner. Unfortunately, the helmet didn't help him out much. Since Hugh kept his end of the bargain like the true gent he is, the First Mate and I donated $100 to Young Life, Hugh's favorite charity. This is a great organization and Hugh does a lot of...

Northern Alliance Back At The State Fair!

The Northern Alliance gang comes back to the Minnesota State Fair again today from noon to 3 pm, and this time we have some heavy-hitting guests! No, I'm not talking about the Los Angeles Dodgers, although that would be pretty darned good, too. I'm talking about Senator Norm Coleman and Congressman Mark Kennedy, two Minnesota politicians who have bright futures with the Republican party. You can catch us on the Internet stream at this link, but make sure you enable pop-up windows or the stream won't work. If you can make it to the Fair, be sure to hang around after the show. The Northern Alliance will have a blogger's party after the show (starting at 3:30) at the Beer Gardens. Like our Keegan's appearances, this is a non-partisan bloggers' event; we just want to hang with Upper Midwestern bloggers regardless of affiliation. If you come to the booth between...

Red-Letter Day At The Fair

We had a real treat today at the AM 1280 The Patriot booth today, or I should say, a whole series of treats. The Northern Alliance had a couple of terrific guests and afterwards got together with some great bloggers from the Minnesota Organization of Bloggers, or MOB. (That's a perfect nickname, by the way ...) Our first guest today was Senator Norm Coleman, who not only kept us well-informed about the election and his duties in Congress, but thoroughly captivated the large crowd that gathered in front of our booth. Senator Coleman talked at length about what's at stake in this election and reminded us that we need to stay active in order to get Minnesota to end its 32-year losing streak. He also revealed that he wants to add a blog to his website in order to facilitate communication with his constituents. Hey, Senator Coleman -- if you're...

Northern Alliance On The Air Again!

We'll be doing our fourth and final State Fair show today, from noon to 3 pm CT -- in other words, just a couple of minutes! Check us out on our Internet stream if you're not in the local area. We'll be talking homeland security, the election, and other great subjects....

The World's First Live-Audience Gang Live-Blog!

Tonight, the Northern Alliance makes history as we welcome our local bloggers to watch the last Presidential debate with us tonight at the Minneapolis Downtown Hilton. The event has been set up by AM 1280 The Patriot and is being sponsored by the Hilton and Wade Financial. We'll have free snacks, a cash bar, and wireless networking available, and several of the Northern Alliance will be on hand to live-blog and to hang out with our friends. Your friendly Captain will certainly be on hand, and check out the other NARN blogs to see who else will be there....

Take A Shot At Fisking Nick!

You've seen all of the Northern Alliance gang do it -- me, Mitch, King, the guys at Powerline -- and hell, the Fraters Libertas gang seems to live for it. Now you can join in the fun, too! Mitch Berg has started the first Fisk Nick Coleman contest at Shot In The Dark, giving his readers an opportunity to take their own shots at the man Minnesotans love to hate hate to read. How do you enter? It's easy: 1. Read Nick Coleman's latest column* (I haven't read it yet, but I'll wager it has something to do with the plight of the working stiff, the evil greed of Republicans, or how Nick Knows Stuff You Don't) 2. Pick one sentence or paragraph you feel desperately needs fisking 3. Leave your best fisking of that passage in a comment on Mitch's post. That's it, but get your entries in as...

Northern Alliance Guest Hosts The Hugh Hewitt Show Tonight!

The Northern Alliance Radio Network again hijacks the Hugh Hewitt radio show, starting from 5 pm CT. The Generalissimo will be on hand to shepherd us through, as long as we promise not to break all of the studio furniture. We think we may have some breaking news in the first hour, so be sure to tune us in right away. I plan on live-blogging the show, so keep checking back! 5:15 - Just finished the first segment, did a bit of poll review and took a call. We're coming up on a breaking campaign-finance story that you'll want to hear ... 5:19 - I keep getting e-mails about THK carrying beer at an event. Can someone tell me why this is such a problem? Has no one ever carried a couple of beers around for friends? ... 5:22 - A representative from the national College Republicans alleges connections between...

Power Line's Hindrocket Honored In Rocket Competition

My friend and Northern Alliance colleage John "Hindrocket" Hinderaker received a singular honor from a competitor at the prestigious G. Harry Stine Memorial Launch this year. Team Vatsaas has named their entry the Hindrocket, and even modeled the entry from John's icon on the website. Team Vatsaas engineers predict that the 54" rocket will go a half-mile on launch. Our justifiably proud friend writes on today's Power Line post: We are truly honored to have this high-performance rocket named after us. It's another indication, I think, of how far the blogosphere has come. I'll bet no one enters a rocket named after Dan Rather in the the G. Harry Stine competition. As the event is going on this weekend, we expect to see photos of the Hindrocket's launching and flight on Rick's site, and we'll pass them on when Rick posts them. We can't wait to see the pictures, but...

Northern Alliance Radio In For Hugh Hewitt Tonight!

Tonight, the Northern Alliance Radio Network fills in for Hugh Hewitt, who has the evening off. Make sure you tune in to hear Mitch, King, myself, and the other members of the NARN gang hijack Hugh's show from 5 pm - 8 pm CT tonight. If Hugh isn't on the air in your neighborhood, you can get the show on the Internet; check out Hugh's site for more details. Of course, tomorrow we will be on the air in the Twin Cities and on the Internet in our regular time period, 12-3 CT. Be sure to catch us then as well!...

Northern Alliance Team Takes The Sprirt Of America Challenge!

The Northern Alliance is proud to sponsor a team for the Spirit of America "Friends of Iraq" Challenge. SoA provides support and provisions for our fighting men and women in Iraq who want to help rebuild the country and create the kind of friendship with freedom-loving Iraqis that can transform the region. You can donate with the Northern Alliance team at this link. We're competing with other bloggers to raise more funds than any other team, and the NARN guys have targeted Jeff Jarvis for defeat. Jeff has his big team of media stars, while the Northern Alliance has ... er ... me. And Mitch. Yeah, we're a couple of great looking guys -- okay, I'm lying, we have faces made for radio. But we do have the movie-star looks of The Elder and Saint Paul at Fraters Libertas, the financial wizardry of King Banaian at SCSU Scholars, and...

Spirit Of America Update!

In just a few short hours since we started our challenge, we have raised over $4,000 in donations from Northern Alliance readers for the Spirit of America/Friends of Iraq Bloggers Challenge! Joining our team are a slew of blogfriends, including Bogus Gold, Pioneer Press columnist Craig Westover, Hobbs Online, Mad Anthony, Margaret and ol' what's-his-name at Our House, Peoples Republic Of Minnesota, and our mentor Hugh Hewitt. You can continue to donate at this link. So far, we're leaving Jeff Jarvis in our dust, but Jeff's a pretty sneaky competitor. I think he's waiting until we get overconfident and get arm-weary, like George Foreman at all-you-can eat night at Fuddruckers fighting Ali for the championship. Jeff's betting that his rope-a-dope will give him the title, but our readers are smarter than that! But just in case you're thinking about giving Jeff a hand, remember what I told you about...

Northern Alliance Roundtable On Ukraine Crisis

We had a great first hour on the Northern Alliance Radio Network this afternoon, with King Banaian, Rocket Man, Brian Ward, Mitch Berg, and myself all discussing the Ukrainian political crisis. Thanks to Instapundit, many Internet listeners caught the last part of the hour. If you missed any or all of what we think was one of our best hours, I've posted the segments in MP3 format, which you should be able to downstream: Segment 1 Segment 2 Segment 3 Segment 4 Don't forget to check out our stream, as the show continues until 3 pm CT. It also repeats four times a day during weekdays, at 9 and 3, on this same stream....

Having Fun With The Taxpayers League

I came into the studio early for today's Northern Alliance radio show, doing a bit of prep for today's topics, and my friends David Strom and Margaret Martin invited me in for a segment on the Taxpayers League. We chatted about the ridiculous editorial in today's Star Tribune calling Norm Coleman an embarrassment for having the nerve to demand accountability from Kofi Annan for presiding over the worst financial scandal in history, and had a great time laughing about the cluelessness of the editors at the Strib. Afterwards, I spoke with Dwight Rabuse and I'll also be guesting on his show in the third segment (11:34 CT, on the same stream as our link above) to talk about blogging. If you're interested in how to get your feet wet with your own blog, be sure to tune in. Afterwards, the entire Northern Alliance gang will be in for the normal...

Northern Alliance Radio Today (Update!)

We'll be on the air for our last show of the year this afternoon, 12-3 pm CT, discussing a plethora of topics. You can expect plenty of Nick Coleman talk, especially in the third hour, as the Strib columnist has engaged in a series of phone calls and e-mail exchanges with Mitch Berg that frankly has had us in stitches all week long. Also, in the first hour, the First Mate has a Christmas gift for me that she insists I have to open on the air. The Mystery Gift should be opened sometime during the last half of the first hour, so be sure to tune in! UPDATE: The Mystery Gift turned out to be a terrific captain's hat: I haven't taken it off yet. I'll have a better picture from our Christmas dinner tonight with the Admiral Emeritus and our son's in-laws. (Shown laughing in picture -- Big...

Time Magazine Names Power Line Blog Of The Year

The Northern Alliance is proud to congratulate our friends and colleagues at Power Line for their honor at being named Blog of the Year by Time Magazine. CNN reports on the honor as part of their article on George Bush being named Time's Person of the Year: This year the magazine named the conservative "Power Line" as its first "Blog of the Year." Kelly said blogs, Web sites that often mix news, gossip and opinion, are "here to stay." Time has a complete story on the Power Line trio in its issue hitting the newsstands tomorrow; its Internet publication requires subscription. I'll be picking up my copy as soon as possible -- maybe I'll even get Scott Johnson and John Hinderaker to sign it. I can't think of three nicer or more deserving men to get this kind of recognition. Join me in congratulating my friends on their great success....

Northern Alliance Radio Today

Don't forget that the Northern Alliance returns from its Christmas hiatus with a live show today, from noon to 3 pm CT. Be sure to catch us on air or over the Internet, and call in to chat with us at 651-289-4488. If you have a cell phone, you probably have free calling on weekends. We'll look forward to talking with you!...

Ever The Gentleman

Hugh Hewitt talks about the first book-signing appearance for his new book, Blog: Understanding the Information Reformation That's Changing Your World, held in the Barnes & Noble bookstore in Orange, CA last night. I alerted my mother, who occasionally posts comments here as Vayapaso, about Hugh's appearance and told her to get a signed copy of the book. Hugh himself talks about meeting the bloggers at the event: A couple of blogger/authors dropped by my book signing tonight which made it great fun: Bill Whittle of Eject, Eject, Eject (and author of the critically acclaimed Silent America --which may be the first entirely blog-derived book, and which proves, I think, that publishers have a huge gold mine in front of them packaging the best of the blogopshere between covers for easy transport. MarkDRoberts also stopped by to wish Blog well. As did einvolved's Stacey Harp, Kicking Over My Traces, and...

Northern Alliance Radio Today

Don't forget to tune in for the Northern Alliance Radio Network this afternoon from noon to 3 pm CT. We'll be discussing lots of different topics, but I think you can be assured that we will focus on the CBS panel and its report on Memogate. Later on, try giving a listen to another group of bloggers doing their own radio show. Homespun Bloggers may be the next step in the democratization of free speech....

Power Line Back

I got a couple of e-mails this morning about Power Line being hacked. I started to post a confirmation on this -- the site redirected to a weird whois page -- but I checked again and it appears to be back up. I don't know what caused the problem, if it was a hack or just a glitch in a DNS server somewhere. Hopefully it won't happen again....

Another Who Could Use Prayer

Hugh Hewitt just interviewed a 6-year-old girl who has a new website, Megan's Home. Megan has a rare autoimmune disease known as Microscopic Polyangiitis (MPA). The disease has seriously damaged her kidneys, and she will need a transplant soon. She's quite a little artist, and her dad has put plenty of her drawings of flowers on the website, along with an explanation of her disease and Megan's prognosis. You all were so kind with your prayers and thoughts for the First Mate, and the strength we took from that was tremendous. I'd feel remiss if I didn't ask you to visit Megan's website and sign her guestbook, drop her an e-mail, say a prayer, or all three....

Northern Alliance Radio In For Hugh Hewitt!

The Northern Alliance will sit in for Hugh Hewitt tonight from 5-8 pm CT as Hugh is traveling today. We'll be taking on Peter Beinart in a foreshadowing of the debate next week at our Patriot Forum. Governor Bill Owen of Colorado will also be joining us, as will John Podhoretz of the New York Post, one of our favorite writers in the mainstream media. Be sure to tune us in, or check in at Hugh's site to listen via web streaming!...

Northern Alliance Featured On Local News

Our local NBC affiliate included the Northern Alliance Radio gang in a news feature for its broadcast tonight on bloggers in general. Rocket Man and Big Trunk get lots of interview time, along with a few other local bloggers, and we get a couple of moments in the booth doing our radio show (filmed three weeks ago or so). It's actually a good, balanced piece on blogging in general, one that won't insult your intelligence. If you don't live in the Twin Cities or you missed it, the entire piece can be viewed on the KARE-11 website....

Hewitt Vs. Beinart -- The Thrilla In Minneapolilla

What a great night for AM 1280 The Patriot, its fans, the Northern Alliance, and Hugh Hewitt and Peter Beinart! The long-awaited debate between Hewitt and Beinart finally took place tonight at the Downtown Minneapolis Hilton, where the guests enjoyed a delicious chicken dinner and the substitute radio stylings of the Northern Alliance gang of knuckleheads, filling in for Hugh for the third straight night. In fact, we wound up scarfing our dinners down after we finished the show so we could give our full attention to the debate, excellently and humorously moderated by our own Scott "Big Trunk" Johnson from Power Line. Who won? I give Peter full marks for bravery; as I complimented him after the show, I think he did as well as he could in a personally friendly but politically hostile environment. I have to give Peter full marks for passion and eloquence, and he scored...

We expect many guests to join us to help us celebrate, including the man who got us the gig in the first place, Hugh Hewitt. Expect the unexpected, as the Fraters Libertas gang have made most of the arrangements! If you're not in the Twin Cities, you can pick up our new Internet stream from AM 1280 The Patriot. Later in the evening, Chicago Sun-Times reporter Thomas Lipscomb -- the man who broke the story about the VVAW's assassination plans against eight US Senators and John Kerry's involvement in the meetings -- will appear on PBS tomorrow night at 7:30 PM in the New York area on WNYE-TV. If you aren't in that area, Digital Age will carry the live Internet stream....

UPDATE II: Thanks to everyone who called in. Please use this link to find the phone number for your Senator to urge them to pass the bill under debate at 4:00 PM CT that will allow the Schindlers to access the federal courts on behalf of Terri. UPDATE III: A couple of days ago, in a moment of frustration, I deleted a trackback ping from Cao's Blog. Northern Alliance Radio Today

The Northern Alliance Radio Network will be on the air today at its usual time, noon to 3 pm CDT, to discuss the political and cultural issues of the week. Certainly, high up on our topic list will be the Iranian election, the Kelo decision, Karl Rove, Dick Durbin, and much, much more. In our second hour, we'll interview Christina Hoff Summers, author of One Nation Under Therapy, which warns how our "helping" culture undermines self-reliance. And in our third hour, we will launch our first Un-Pledge Drive, where we encourage listeners to cancel their subscriptions to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune because of their increasingly delusional editorial board. If you are in the Twin Cities, you can hear us on AM 1280 The Patriot, but if you live elsewhere, you can also listen to us on the station's Internet stream from its website. Mark Kennedy, Northern Alliance, And A Troll

The Northern Alliance broadcast yesterday from the first Patriot Picnic, a listener-appreciation event from AM 1280 The Patriot. John Hinderaker has already posted a couple of pictures from the event from his first-hour appearance. He had to leave to join his family for a vacation, but he did get a chance to listen while we -- lovingly -- skewered him for his partial defense of the Kelo decision. (John, we can tell you apart from Karl Marx and Fidel Castro, even if our listeners can't. You're the one without the beard.) As you might sense, we had a terrific time at Staring Lake Park yesterday for our live show, and we had a great crowd on hand. In our second hour, Rep. Mark Kennedy dropped in for an interview, and he sounded fit and ready to take on the Senate race to replace Mark Dayton next year. Kennedy gave our...

Northern Alliance Radio Today

Once again, and for the final time in 2005, the Northern Alliance Radio Network takes to the Twin Cities airwaves starting at noon Central Time. We will spend our first hour reviewing the week's news, probably giving special attention to leak probes, the Alito nomination, the ridiculous desperation of the latest domestic spying stories, the real story behind "extraordinary rendition", and so on. The following two hours will review the past year of Northern Alliance tomfoolery, and if you've been a faithful listener, you'll know that two hours will hardly do that any justice. (I expect my brilliant non-endorsement of a non-sponsor from a couple of weeks ago to get a highlight somewhere in there.) If you're in the Twin Cities, tune us in at AM 1280 The Patriot. If you're outside our signal reach, you can listen to the fun on the webstream at the station's website, which is...

Our friends at Fraters Libertas and Power Line will take over the first two hours, and today feature an inteview in the second hour with Stephen Hayes, whose work in reporting on the captured Iraqi Intelligence Service files has shown that the Saddam regime trained Islamist terrorists by the thousands. In the third and fourth hours, Mitch Berg and I will review the news of the week, including my reporting on the week I spent in Washington covering the Alito confirmation hearings. King Banaian of SCSU Scholars would normally join us in hours 3 and 4, but he is on assignment this weekend. Mitch also will cover the ongoing issues of the smoking ban in today's show. For those of you in the Twin Cities, we can be...

Why You Should Be Listening To The NARN

If you haven't been listening to the Northern Alliance Radio Network on our Internet stream Saturdays, then you have missed some terrific original broadcasts. Not only have we had great guests, such as Michael Ledeen today or Victor Davis Hanson last week, but we regularly offer original and entertaining political commentary. I'm not kidding ... Where else will you find this kind of rebuttal to Harry Belafonte's latest lunacies? I've added this to the CQ podcast, which can be accessed through I-Tunes now or through any RSS feed reader. It's blessedly brief, and it explains why I never made a career out of my high-school musical training. Be sure to catch the NARN show on Saturdays, from 11 am to 3 pm CT, and replayed again in its entirety on the same Internet stream starting Sunday evening at 9 pm CT....

The Northern Alliance Radio Network owes a lot to a number of people for the success we have had over the last 27 months, including just about everyone who works or has worked at AM 1280 The Patriot. One of those people has passed away, Mitch Berg tells us, and he shares a few good stories about the NARN's first producer: I worked with Joe twice - at KDWB-AM, back in 1990-92, and again for the first year when he was the engineer/producer for the Northern Alliance. He's most familiar to people in the Twins, of course, as Tom Mischke's producer "The Jackal", and especially as Jason Lewis' longtime producer and foil. ... Joe had already been a "road warrior" when we met at KDWB-AM in 1990; he'd worked all over Minnesota. Contacts had gotten him a job as a board operator at KDWB-AM - a miserable, slumming gig, watching the...

Northern Alliance Radio On The Air Today

The NARN once again takes to the airwaves today on AM 1280 The Patriot. The opening act will cover the end of the state Republican convention, while the second half will take on the issues of the day. Chief among them, I'm sure, will be the terror bust in Toronto and the controversy around the DHS grant allocations that led Re. Peter King to accuse Michael Chertoff of declaring war on New York City. Be sure to listen on the Internet stream, and call us at 651-289-4488 to join the conversation!...

Northern Alliance Radio On The Air

The Northern Alliance Radio Network goes on the air at 11 am CT. The opening half includes John from Power Line, and Chad and Brian from Fraters Libertas. At 12:30, we will have Dr. Charles Kupchella of UND, discussing their lawsuit against the NCAA regarding their school's "Fighting Sioux" nickname and logo. The second half will feature Mitch from Shot In the Dark and King from SCSU Scholars from 1 to 3 pm CT. Unfortunately, I will not make it into the studio, but Mitch and King have a great week of news to review and may have a few surprises up their sleeves. Call in and join the fun at 651-289-4488, or send an e-mail to comments@northernallianceradio.com!...

Northern Alliance Radio Today

I will join the Northern Alliance Radio Network today via telephone, rather than in studio as normal. I still cannot sit up in a normal chair long enough to do the radio show, and Mitch and King have been gracious enough to allow me to do my part from the recliner. You can listen to the show on AM 1280 The Patriot, either on the radio if you're in the Twin Cities, or on the Internet stream if not. You can also catch the Internet stream at the new Townhall site. We'll be discussing the terror attacks, the DocEx documents that I've reviewed the last couple of days, the Jeff Goldstein/Deb Frisch kerfuffle, and much more. Be sure to call in at 651-289-4488 to join the conversation! UPDATE: Forgot to post the time! We're on now (1:15 PM CT) and will be on until 3 PM CT....

Northern Alliance Radio Today

Once again, the Northern Alliance Radio Network returns to the airwaves at AM 1280 The Patriot. The first half of the show features Chad and Brian from Fraters Libertas and John from Power Line at 11 am CT. Mitch joins me at 1 pm CT; King is traveling in Mongolia and will not be with us. We'll be talking about all of the events in the past week, including my vist with Karl Rove, which will cover information not included in my post from yesterday (as Hugh Hewitt surmised). Be sure to tune in, or catch the Internet stream at the station's web site or through Townhall's link. Call us and join the conversation at 651-289-4488!...

Northern Alliance Radio Today

The Northern Alliance Radio Network airs today, as it does every Saturday, starting at 11 am CT. Brian and Chad from Fraters Libertas and John from Power Line take the first two hours, and Mitch Berg from Shot in the Dark joins me at 1 pm CT. We'll be talking about all the week's events. At 2 pm CT we'll be talking with Michael Ledeen, who got smeared badly by what can be politely described as an incompetent analysis by James Bamford in the Rolling Stone. How many other magazines make the claim that Saddam Hussein went into hiding in December 2001 -- in Iran? You can listen to the show on AM 1280 The Patriot if you're in the Twin Cities, or on our Internet stream at the same website or on Townhall. Join the conversation by calling 651-289-4488! BUMP, 1:45 PM: Michael Ledeen coming up in 15 minutes...

What Is A Yale Diva Doing At Columbia?

Eliana Johnson, once the proprietress of a clever blog called Yale Diva, has moved to the New York Sun as a reporter. She covered the appearance of Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson at Columbia University yesterday, where Paulson tried to establish a new momentum for spending cuts and entitlement reform in his maiden speech. I'll cover this at the Heritage Foundation Policy Blog later today. Eliana has another blog connection: she is the daughter of my good friend Scott Johnson at Power Line, who proudly notes the tight style and straightforward reporting of the story. I had the pleasure to meet Eliana and all of Scott's family on a few occasions and am delighted at her new success. I'm particularly pleased that she works at one of the best newspapers in this new media age....

New Dawn Coming This Saturday

The Northern Alliance Radio Network has broadcast for almost two and a half years here in the Twin Cities and around the world on our Internet stream, the first broadcast radio show by bloggers ever. We started as a three-hour show on Saturday afternoons with a rotating cast for every hour. When we got an extra hour earlier this year, we split the show into a more fixed format, with three bloggers in each two-hour segment, and ran from 11 am to 3 pm Central time each Saturday. Now we have an exciting change that we believe will attract even more listeners. The Patriot has allowed us to shift the show to a 9 am CT start, beginning this Saturday morning. Mitch Berg and I will take the first two hours, giving us a chance to start the day off for our listeners with our two-hour segment. Brian, Chad, and...

Northern Alliance Radio Hits The Air At New Time

Talk about a New Dawn Coming! The Northern Alliance Radio Network airs today at its new time, 9 am CT, with Mitch Berg from Shot in the Dark and me starting off the festivities. Brian and Chad from Fraters Libertas and John from Power Line take the second shift in their normal start time of 11 am. King Banaian is still in Mongolia -- no, seriously! -- and will join us next week. Today we will be talking with Steven Vincent's widow on the first anniversary of the author's death in Iraq. We will also speak with state senator Michele Bachmann, currently campaigning for Congress and a recent endorsee of the Rightroots initiative. You can tune us in at AM 1280 The Patriot, or catch our Internet stream at their website or at Townhall. Give us a call at 651-289-4488 to join the conversation -- and don't forget to start...

Northern Alliance Radio At The County Fair

Mitch and I will be broadcasting from the Dakota County Fair today in our return to the 1-3 pm CT time slot on the Northern Alliance Radio Network. Brian, Chad, and John will be broadcasting from the air-conditioned bunker at their normal time of 11 am - 1 pm CT, but then again, they won't get food on sticks! King, meanwhile, is taking today off to cook up his new show which starts next week at 3 pm, when Michael Broadkorb joins him for NARN 3 - The Revenge Of The Sith. (Did I get that title right?) Be sure to come out to the fair to see us today, and bring plenty of food on sticks. Mitch can never get enough. UPDATE: We had a great time at the fair. It's much more relaxed than the state fair, which we will do on both weekends, four shows in all....

Northern Alliance Radio Expands To Six Hours!

The Northern Alliance Radio Network will expand its live programming today to six hours. King Banaian and Michael Broadkorb will begin NARN 3 today, airing from 3-5 PM on Saturdays from now on. That follows Mitch Berg and me in NARN 2 at 1-3pm CT, and the trio of NARN 1 (Brian Ward, Chad The Elder, and John Hinderaker) from 11-1 CT. Our broadcasts can be heard as always on AM 1280 The Patriot, which has an Internet stream for those outside the Twin Cities. Listeners can join the conversation at 651-289-4488, and we love telephone calls. Be sure to join the original blogger radio show every Saturday!...

The Great Minnesota Get-Together

It's that time of year again here in Minnesota, when it seems that half of the state congregates within a square mile to sample food on a stick and make carny barkers rich. It's the Great Minnesota Get-Together, our State Fair, and as always, the Northern Alliance Radio Network will broadcast live from the AM 1280 The Patriot booth. We'll be broadcasting both Saturdays and Sundays from the fairgrounds. On Saturdays, we will stick to our new expanded schedule of 11 am - 5 pm CT, while on Sundays we will broadcast from 12 - 4 pm CT. If you can't get down to the fair on either weekend, tune us in at 1280 AM or on our Internet stream. We actually started the get-together last night at Keegan's Irish Pub, our sponsor and our favorite watering hole. Hugh Hewitt and Duane "Generalissimo" Patterson broadcast live from the fair the...

A Fair Day For A Fair Broadcast

The Northern Alliance Radio Network returns to the Minnesota State Fair this afternoon on its abbreviated Sunday schedule. Mitch and I will be on the air from noon to 2 pm CT at the AM 1280 The Patriot booth, while King and Michael follow us from 2 - 4 pm CT. Be sure to stop by the booth, tune us in, or catch our Internet stream at The Patriot's website to join us! If you want to take part in the conversation, call us at 651-289-4488. UPDATE, 11:27 AM: I've breached security here at the Patriot's booth and have commandeered their computer. It's a beautiful morning here, a perfect fair-going day. If you're in town, you really should be at the State Fair....

It's All Happening At The Fair

As I wrote last week, it's that time of year again here in Minnesota, when it seems that half of the state congregates within a square mile to sample food on a stick and make carny barkers rich. It's the Great Minnesota Get-Together, our State Fair, and as always, the Northern Alliance Radio Network will broadcast live from the AM 1280 The Patriot booth. We'll be broadcasting again today and tomorrow from the fairgrounds. Today, we will stick to our new expanded schedule of 11 am - 5 pm CT; tomorrow we will broadcast from 12 - 4 pm CT. If you can't get down to the fair on either weekend, tune us in at 1280 AM or on our Internet stream. I'll be on with Mitch from 1-3 CT today and 2-4 CT tomorrow, so be sure to tune in!...

The Last Day At The Fair

The Northern Alliance Radio Network will be making our last appearance today at the Minnesota State Fair this afternoon from noon to 4 Central Time. As always, we will broadcast live from the AM 1280 The Patriot booth. We expect visits from local politicians and Mitch's new taste sensation on a stick: deep-fried White Castle sliders. Actually, if he follows through on that, we also expect to meet a few of the EMTs that have worked diligently during the Great Minnesota Get-Together. Be sure to listen to our broadcast on The Patriot or on its Internet stream -- and if you're in town, stop by our booth and say hello! We're at the curve of Judson Street, just south of the Horticulture building, between the motorcycle booth and the corn-dog booth....

Northern Alliance Radio On The Air ... For Now

The NARN retreats to the studio this week after our successful State Fair run the last two weekends -- but be careful who you tell. We understand that broadcast outlets that dare to criticize Democrats run the risk of getting their FCC licenses pulled. Nonetheless, we've already gone on the air today from the Undisclosed Bunker and will remain on until 5 pm CT at AM 1280 The Patriot -- or until they shut us down. You can listen on the Internet stream if you're not in the Twin Cities, and you can call us at 651-289-4488 to join the conversation, even if you have to disguise your voice and call on cell phones while changing locations. The Fraters gang is already on. Mitch and I start our broadcast at 1 pm CT, and the Final Word with King and Mike take the final two hours, starting at 3 pm...

Victor Davis Hanson And John Hawkins On NARN Today

The Northern Alliance Radio Network returns to the airwaves today with a couple of very special guests. At 2 pm CT, we will have the extraordinary Victor Davis Hanson joining us, talking about ... well, whatever he wants to discuss! We will definitely discuss the analysis of the term "Islamic fascism", which seems to have academia in an uproar lately, as well as the erupting controversy over the Pope's remarks. He also has a post regarding the new deal to quintuple the number of Saudi students in the US, and we'll get to that topic, I'm sure. At 1:30 CT, we'll call John Hawkins of Right Wing News to discuss the progress on the latest Rightroots push. He's been the organizing force behind this effort to support targeted races in order to secure a Republican majority in the next Congress, and he'll have updates on the candidates endorsed by the...

Northern Alliance Radio Network On The Air

We're back on the air with the Northern Alliance Radio Network this afternoon. Mitch and I will go from 1-3 pm at AM 1280 The Patriot, and we'll be discussing a wide range of topics. We're looking into the border-fence bill, the new legislation for terrorist detention, interrogation, and trial, and the announcement that the Twin Cities will host the 2008 Republican National Convention. Since I blogged at the RNC in 2004, I'll have a few stories to tell about what we can expect in 2008. We also will cover the Mark Foley scandal, but we're disappointed that we forgot to bring the proper bumber music. Mitch and I wanted to use "Uncle Ernie" by the Who, "Aqualung" by Jethro Tull, "Young Girl" by Gary Puckett & The Union Gap, "Baby Talks Dirty" by The Knack, and a number of others. If you have any suggestions, please post them in...

Colonel Joe Repya, who just returned from Iraq, joins us at 2 pm to discuss the war and the progress being made. Patriot Rally

The Northern Alliance Radio Network will be attending the Patriot Rally this evening in the Twin Cities. Hugh Hewitt will host an evening that intends to rally Republicans and to review the issues at stake in the mid-term elections. The Patriot will have Senator Norm Coleman as a special guest, plus the potential for a couple of surprise guests. I'll try to live-blog from the event, and I'll have the camera along with me. UPDATE, 7:30 PM: I just got a connection to the Internet here at intermission. I'm here with a lot of terrific people from the MOB, including Brad, The Lady Logician, the Buddhist Republican, and many more, including my NARN compatriots. We've just heard a great slate of Republican candidates, including Mark Kennedy, Alan Fine, and Michele Bachmann. Michele had a tremendous motivational speech reminding us of the stakes involved in the election; she's always inspirational on...

Northern Alliance Radio Today -- The Post-Election Blues?

Mitch and I will be on the air between 1-3 pm CT this afternoon for the Northern Alliance Radio Network on AM 1280 The Patriot. How do Republicans proceed now that we are in the minority, and how can we engage the Democrats in the war on terror? CQ readers outside of the Twin Cities can listen to the show on our Internet stream at the station's web site (linked above), and you can join the conversation by calling 651-289-4488. Claudia Rosett On NARN Today!

Mitch and I go on the air today at 1 pm CT for our regular NARN broadcast, with a special guest to discuss the changes at the UN. Ban Ki Moon still remains a relative mystery to most Americans. Who is this new leader, and will he make the UN relevant again -- a force for freedom and liberty, rather than a tool of dictators and kleptocrats? In order to find the answers, we will have the intrepid Claudia Rosett on the Northern Alliance Radio Network this afternoon at 2 pm CT/3 pm ET. Be sure to tune in at AM 1280 The Patriot or listen to the station's Internet stream as we ask the media's best expert on the UN and its surrounding scandals how Moon can change the culture at Turtle Bay and who he has been until now. You can pose your own questions by calling 651-289-4488...

Northern Alliance Radio Takes A Break

The Northern Alliance Radio Network will not broadcast today on AM 1280 The Patriot. We're taking a break this holiday weekend to spend some time with our families, but we will return next week at our regularly scheduled slots. Mitch and I will actually be doing a live remote with our friends at White Bear Lake Superstore, so if you're near the east side of Saint Paul, be sure to join us on the showroom floor between 1-3 pm CT. Posting at CQ will likely be light through Tuesday, but I will have a few posts to share with everyone, so keep checking back. I'm hoping to do something special for a Christmas greeting for all of my friends in the CQ community. In the meantime, I hope you all enjoy this time of year with your families and friends. Northern Alliance Radio Live Today

The Northern Alliance Radio Network goes back to live broadcasting today after the Christmas break. That means that all six hours will be fresh, but none so fresh as Mitch and I broadcasting live from the showroom of White Bear Lake Superstore! The six-hour block starts at 11 am CT on AM 1280 The Patriot (and on the Internet stream at that link), but Mitch and I will go live between 1 - 3 PM CT. If you're on the east side of the Twin Cities, make your way to the best car dealership and say hi to Paul Reuben and the gang -- especially if your New Year's resolution is to upgrade the ride. So what will we be discussing? I'd say Saddam's execution will be the hot topic today, but we'll also cover the revelation that our own State Department knew for decades that Yasser Arafat had murdered...

A Fun Fundraiser Tomorrow

One of the great parts about doing the Northern Alliance Radio shows on Saturdays has been the terrific people I have met during our three-year run. One of the nicest is Matt Reynolds, our crack producer for the last few months. Matt and his wife Amber have entered into the adoption process to add a baby from Guatemala to their young family, but as anyone who has knowledge of international adoptions can attest, it costs a lot of money to successfully complete an adoption. Tomorrow night, we will attend a fundraiser for Matt and Amber at the Maple Grove Evangelical Free Church from 6-9 pm. Chipotle is donating the catering, which means we will have some excellent and healthy Mexican food for attendees. Here is Matt's description of the festivities: Fundraising Fiesta for Hezekiah is on Feb 10th from 6-9 pm with a silent auction and a Mexican dinner. If...

Last week, we had the Oh Crap I Live In Minnesota edition. This week, it's the Balmy Weather edition -- you have to be balmy to be out in it. Power Line Book Of The Year

My partners in the Northern Alliance have always pushed the boundaries of the blogosphere, and have never been a trio inclined to rest on their laurels. John, Scott, and Paul want to start highlighting the work of conservative authors and publicizing their efforts. Keep an eye out for more on their selection...
